Since HD radio is digital the radio designers need to do some research on amping up digital signals for better gain and quit thinking in terms of just RF strength alone as digital can be increased in many more ways than the old analog methods we are all use to.

A lot of the HD receivers out there, with exception of a few of the newer ones such the Insignia portable and the Sangean rack tuner, are unbelievably deaf. They are awful analog tuners and even worse HD receivers. The Boston Acoustic one that I have is within 2-4 miles of most of the Clear Channel transmitters and unless you monkey around with the antenna, you don't get many of them in analog with any regularity, let alone HD. The other stations, inlcuding Class C's 15-20 miles away? Forget it.

It's a well documented problem. Moreover, receiver penetration is squat.

About like AM Stereo. 'ESC" sure has the audio going to the HDs. They splatter all over 92.3 and 92.7!

;D Freqdev- Harris is my vote too! No "platform motion" like C-Quam. As for HD, try the $49 Insignia HD-Radio portable from BB. It is very sensitive not deaf, I have an Accurian from the Shaft and it is sorta-kinda ok. The Sony tabletop is good also- JVC HD for the car is excellent.

HD... oh, what might have been. Instead of acting as a way improving current signals, it's used as the "land of misfit formats." Sad really.

That's my experience, too. I have a JVC head unit with HD Radio. My wife found WSPA-HD2 last time we were traveling through the Upstate and wouldn't let me touch that dial again until we were out of range heading back home.

The vast majority of the time I can get the HD signal in my car as far away as I can get the analog. In fact, at night I can get the HD from WBZ in Boston from home in central PA. I didn't expect to get HD via skywave.

Anyway, the point is that I am happy with my JVC radio. Now, to convince more than one of the local stations to start using it so that I don't have to travel to benefit from having it.
