The last word I heard from the FCC was that they applied for a License to Cover for W266DK. Now it appears that the the CP has been Dismissed. Can anyone shed any light on what is going on? Thanks.

As far as I know, the FM translator for co-owned 1230 WNEB was dismissed but the 101.1 translator for WESO was in fact on the air.

I knew that WNEB had problems and finally gave up on pursuing the issue further. I also know that W266DK conducted program tests, but the license was never granted, or if so there is no record of such. Here are links to the FCC CDBS for what information is available. Application Search Details

I'm just curious. WESO was the first station I unfortunately worked at way back when. Talk about Basic Training. (lol)
I live in Virginia now.

I just realized that after you go to that link, you may need to click on "Advanced" then type in the Station Calls. DW266DK. I assume the "D" is for "Deleted" or "Dark" possibly even "Deceased".
Nothing is easy.

I just listened online to their top of the hour ID. They mentioned both AMs and 101.1 FM.

I may have to take a ride out that way myself.

So I was finally out that way today. I picked up 101.1 around Richardson Corner on route 20 in Charlton. Nice and clear all the way to Sturbridge center on route 131. It is in fact on the air as a translator for Emmanuel Radio. The ironic thing, WESO 970 was off the air.

Nothing surprises me any more. Any information I read from the FCC indicates that not only was the the CP for W266DK never granted, but was in fact dismissed. I realize there ther must be an explanation why it's still on the air (Program Test Authority?), Defies logic. Thanks for taking the time to satisfy my curiosity however.

Thanks for the info. WESO 970 is actually where I got my start radio way back in 1969. I won't say anymore about that. No sense kicking a dead horse. The FCC has no STA for it to be off the air, but then again it has the Translator License as having been cancelled yet it's on the air. I guess it makes sense to someone. Lol
Thanks again.

So I just happened to be in Sturbridge today. WESO was back on the air but you could tell at greatly reduced power.

The FM translator was still on but I had to turn up the volume quite a bit to listen.

Maybe the new owners will work on the issues…or not. 😀

That would be my humble opinion also unless there is some hidden FCC rule we don't know about. I listened to their stream a few weeks ago and their "Legal" ID referred to the translator as "WESO-FM" which we all know, it ain't. Real nice seeing a Catholic Station condoning Piracy if that indeed is the case.

Perhaps that’s the reason the article about the sale doesn’t mention the “translator”. Maybe the new owner is going to simply turn it off.

The last I heard was that both AM & Translator were on the air. There has to be something that we are missing here, but I'll be darned if I can find it.
