West Coast Tsunami Warning

It struck me this evening that NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration) issued a tsunami warning for the Oregon and California coast after a 8.0 magnitude earthquake in American Samoa. The warning which I happened to get through an alert system I subscribed to via e-mail said that an advisory means that a tsunami capable of producing strong currents or waves dangerous to persons in or very near the water is imminent or expected.

Heaven forbid, with all of the main stations in town on automation after 6 p.m. (if not all day!), how would the public be alerted? Through the EAS with their very crackly and distorted statements? What about local information about where to tune for the latest information about San Diego escape routes?

Well if you live in a mobile home in Lakeside you're high enough you don't have to worry about such things.

I would urge that you use common decency when you go after KOGO. Granted the station is failing miserably on so many fronts. But please do not take personal digs about the person happens to be running the place at this time.

Are they failing as a credible news organization? Yes.
Can they no longer report local news stories? True.
Do they have no local programming except mornings? OK.
Has their program director been Roger's fawning lap dog for 15 years? Yes.
Are they losing horribly 25-54? Well, sure.

But please, no cheap trailer park slurs.

Sorry, I was unaware anyone was running the place. My bad.

It was an 'Advisory' not a 'Warning', big difference.

Nevertheless, Twitter was first with the information long before any television or radio reports.

Traditional media becomes less relevant everyday.

Bob, all I was doing was asking nicely. You can do anything you want. But how does a trailer park slur add to this discussion.

Besides, what if he has a nice lawn jockey and some cute ceramic burros in his front yard? That's a party!
