WEST PALM BEACH ARBITRONS

The Winter numbers are out, and can you believe this ? WILD-95.5 and 97.9-WRMF actually posted identical 12+ numbers. That never happens ! WILD surged big-time with one of its best books in years, and RMF is struggling. In other shocking news Miami's JAMZ and AMOR are posting respectable local-like numbers for being out-of-market stations. Additionally Miami's HOT, LOVE, COAST, and KISS are also way up in and around The Palm Beaches.THE MAJOR

That's all because Wild, since Chris Marino got the PD reins, wanted to attack RMF. Go 25-54 on all dayparts and then 18-34 at night. It also helps when Y100 is disorganized and all of the jocks at Wild are likeable. Also, factor in a good female midday host, Monti, and that the morning show no longer has Stern to deal with to take away their numbers. The music mix is on mark for the market. They're also doing a lot of remotes. RMF is stale, their wayback weekends are stale and the formula is very old. They just sound old. Wild 4.0 12+ number is the best number they have had since 2001 before WMBX turned on the air and riding off of Jojo at night.

I bet Wild's surge comes largely from Southern Palm Beach County - listeners from my neck of the woods who have given Wild a chance after all of the chaos at Y. While Chris Marino is an excellent PD, and Wild has had a stable airstaff for years, the music variety has not changed significantly. Wild is much more AC-ish during the day than it is at night, when it sounds much more Rhythmic. In sum, Wild benefitted from Y-100.7's fall, and I hope Wild can keep it up.

Exactly Scott, great point. Since Chris came in, they have walked the hot ac tightrope during the day. But it will beat RMF I think

I agree with the Chris Marino thing! Great guy..great PD..Jbrasco951 your way off on the whole jock thing and fall of Y100..how does that effect Wild? Are the jocks not likeable on Y100...very confused with your points? wheres the evidence of this?

Footy was very abrasive on air when it came to guests and callers and the whole #1 stunna character was not going over in my mind. Footy has done a lot of great things but he couldn't carry the morning show with a very unfunny Kenny Walker holding the show up. Also, Michael Yo couldn't appreciate a show like South Beach Dance Party taking some airtime on Sunday nights. Behind the scenes, Yo wants a bigger flash of the spotlight. Yo might have personality, but I still don't really like him all that much, based on the previous fact. Donnie Michaels was very milquetoast and when he spoke on air, he made sure to drown his voice in the music or music bed. Also, the limited amount of talk time doesn't give any of the jocks time to build a real character to the audience. Michael Yo has his title to allow him to stretch the rules.Adam Bomb has a good sound on air and he has some help around him for the night show. Compared to Y100's dominance in the 70s and 80s, I'm optimistic of the moves being made and the new Morning Zoo is a good step. After they find a new midday host (which should be a female). The personalities along with their already solid music rotation will significantly boost ratings and make their position at taking some of Power 96's audience. There's my evidence. Jbrasco's defense rests

no rest now....compare CHR from the 70's and 80's to now. VERY VERY VERY DIFFERENT. The Chr audience today doesn't stick around for jibber jabber. Espically the Miami market which is one of the most fickle and fast moving audiences in the country. Talking and goofin 1-2 min a time just doens't cut it. Listeners want music entertainment now and quick. Not even Wild 955 does that let a lone just about every major top 40 in the country. As Far as personality's Footy is one of the most recognizable names in South Florida and people love this guy. Evidence is the people showing up, and coverage of this guy retiring..Adam Bomb and Michael Yo have a great presence in South Florida radio as well. I still don't see how Y100 effects Wild in WPB

WOW - When I started this new topic on the West Palm Beach arbitrons I never mentioned Y-100, but here we are with the most interesting thread of messages in here in awhile. I love it when we discuss Y-100 in here ! Maybe when things die down again I'll post a new topic on the Florida Keys arbitrons. ;)JBRASCO - I too was not too fond of Footy's '# 1 Stunna' character, and his frequent use of the 'H' word in reference to white people. Even George Jefferson stopped using that word by the 6TH or 7TH season of "The Jeffersons". I thought (that word) had died back in 1980, but Footy resurrected it from the dead. Nevertheless Footy himself would tell you emphatically that he couldn't carry the morning show, and he never intended to. He was the sidekick. He was the funny guy. He needed a good straight-man to feed off of. Bobby Mitchell played the role perfectly, and he was funny and talented himself. That's why 'Bobby & Footy' lasted (thrived) for so long. 'Kenny & Footy' had turned itself into a 'Ricki Lake' / 'Jerry Springer' type of show during the last couple of years with 'War Of The Roses', 'I've Got A Secret', and other similiar stunts. Some even referred to it as 'hateful' and 'disturbing' - not funny. I agree that 'The Y Morning Zoo' is a good change for the morning time-slot. I also agree that a good female deejay is needed from 10 to 2. I furthermore agree that Y-100 has a solid music rotation right now, but they could lighten-up on their biggest hits. I mean 115+ spins per week is a bit excessive. That's nearly 17 spins every 24 hours. They could reduce that down to about 90 spins per week to make room for some late-1990s European dance retro to their playlist. Am I right JOSH C. ?LLOYDSACKS - Believe it or not I only listen to Y-100 from about 5:30 AM until about 3 PM during the work week. After that (when I return home from work) it's XM Satellite Radio's '20 On 20' all the way through the night. No jibber jabber. No personalities. Just solid hit music at home. I agree that Footy is a Miami radio legend.THE MAJOR
