West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, FL Arbitron Ratings May 2011

The new owners at WRMF are apparently doing something right. Nice move up!

The Yankees have really helped WMEN. They have actually tied with WJNO in AQH and beat them in cume. After baseball season, I'm sure that they will drop below 760's numbers again.

There's enough transplanted NYers in Palm Beach County to get a rating for Yankee games. WMEN probably does better with Yankee games than they'd ever do with the hometown Marlins! :)

The Yankees have helped WMEN? Their cume and their Men 25-54 numbers are still below ESPN 760 in spite of having a better signal than 760. You're gauging it off 6+ numbers? Yikes!

LB, what format holes do you think exist in the West Palm Beach market? Consider the limitations of 103.1's signal as well. In terms of format options, I would hope that Clear Channel does not want to simulcast WJNO on 92.1. WJNO has an excellent signal throughout Palm Beach County. What about a Gen X-type format, like the ones that have popped up in the Midwest and elsewhere? What about a Dance-based format, something like WMIA was SUPPOSED to be instead of straight AC?

I don't think "The Gen X' format is working very well. I know it is doing terrible in Tulsa. It is almost like "The Jammin Oldies" format that faded quickly.

I actually liked the Tulsa Gen-X station when I was there last summer for a brief visit. Too bad the ratings are bad. The problem with so many of those stations are that they are so cheaply run. Tons of jockless time, awful imaging, and a lack of general excitement pervades many of the Clear Channel Gen X stations. And many of them were not programmed well. When there was a Gen X station in Kansas City, it also ran Ryan Seacrest. It clearly did not fit.
