Westerly AM for Sale, any ideas?

I came across this today: You'll have to copy and paste the link, it won't hyperlink properly:

http://www.radiotvdeals.com/35.html?m8:search[group]=933978;search[nested]=1

Although it says Westerly, I have a feeling it's WCRI 1180 in Hope Valley. I'd be surprised if it was Chris DiPaola's WBLQ, and the description doesn't really match his current station, but he IS the only station licensed to Westerly... any ideas?

The station for sale definitely IS WCRI. Heard about it from some friends on my last visit back there a little while ago.

That's good to know, thanks! I figured because their tower is on leased land and there are no studios, and it's in a straight simulcast these days. The description fit perfectly.

At the risk of sounding short-sighted......

What can realistically be done with an AM facility like 1180?

With a location not terribly close to the area's major population centers, a relatively small signal footprint, NO studios, and NO night authorization......What to do?

*With no night power, I don't think it would work as an RIPR repeater.
*K-LOVE?....Last I heard, K-LOVE is cold on the idea of AM's.
*At long last......a LEGAL broadcasting opportunity for everybody's favorite former pirate, Steve Conti?....I have my doubts.

I'm fresh out of ideas....

Steve has/had a hand in WBLQ, I'm not sure what his continuing relationship is over there.

This station seems like the kind of property that Bill Blount would be interested in. I know he's got WARV with a proposed daytime power increase, but the 1180 signal would cover some new territory.

It's almost certain the station won't go for the $585,000.00 it went for in 2003.

I remember Conti's station. It played jazz and old Pams jingles. I forget what happened to it. If 1180 goes for $200K i'd be surprised! Good luck making your $ back. Speaking of 1230, On one of my last trips to visit the Indians, I tuned them in. I was surprised of a couple of things.
1. My Dodge pickup has AM stereo
2. They broadcast in stereo and sound real good!
They we're playing an oldies show with an obnoxious amount of reverb and badly edited WABC jingles. You gotta appreciate hometown radio.

Interesting with Blount. He just bought the former Radio Disney in the Hartford market. I think everything he owns is fulltime, though. Doubt the 1220 crew would take it. I thought that a power drop and move to Wickford could work, bringing back WKFD if only as a pure daytimer. But one can dream.

Marc,

I forgot those two. Both are pure daytimers, with 760 probably having Critical Hours power to protect WJR.

But doesn't WARV already cover Sou' County? I know as Hope Valley's only local service, 1180 would have to remain there unless an extreme circumstance occured (like the one for 1470 in Marlborough).
