Westerly Radio Stations May Be Sold

Charles River Broadcasting to Consider Offers

The board of Charles River Broadcasting is putting the company's five radio outlets up for sale. CRB currently owns Classical WCRB-FM (102.5)/Boston; News/Talk WCNX-AM (1180) & Classical WCRI-FM (95.9)/Providence; and Classical WFCC-FM (107.5) & Classic Rock WKPE-FM (104.7)/Cape Cod, MA.

The move comes as Charles River CEO Bill Campbell goes on medical leave. Board member Herb McCord, who heads JMJ Broadcasting, will now oversee the stations.

CRB has tapped Media Venture Partners to solicit bids for the five stations, which are doing well. It's possible that CRB may not sell WCRB or any of the stations. However, if sold, a condition of any future deal with WCRB would require the new owner to maintain a separate Classical HD channel if the station changed formats. (10-28-05)
