Westwood One/Metro Networks/CBS

were there layoffs this week at Westwood One/ Metro Networks OR were they only at CBS radio itself? (is CBS Radio still the parent of Westwood One/Metro Networks?)

I haven't heard of any. IMHO, they need to sell off Metro/ Shadow. WW1 is just sucking the life out of the company. They're making the money to keep the rest of WW1 afloat. Yet, emplyes have not seen raises in almost 5 years. Do us a favor WW1- SELL METRO/SHADOW!

how can the pay be so poor at Metro? Many Metro offices are union-AFTRA right? I guess AFTRA is weak and Metro is cheap ? (Metro Networks--Westwood One)

I recently left Metro Networks for a higher paying gig. My manager at Metro told me that what Metro offers employees is stability...you aren't going to make a lot of money there, but you're always going to have a job. (and they told me I have a job there if things didn't work out at my new place). They would not match the offer that I received elsewhere. I also know several employees who have gone 5-plus years there without a raise, though I was not one of them.

Not all offices are unionized. Probably some of the major markets like NY, LA & Chicago.

Shadow Rules

It's still the best traffic provider around, especially compared to the company that does traffic reports for Air America Radio and for Emmis. Shadow Traffic still has experienced traffic reporters and producers (not out of work jocks and kids working part-time just out of school) and the most complete set of cameras, aircraft and vehicles on the road. In contrast, the other company, Traffic.com uses out of work DJs sitting in Philly, who have never lived or worked in New York, reading off the company's web page and pre-recording their reports (like traffic conditions don't change much in 10 minutes in morning drive). Much of the time the traffic editors and producers are in Philly, too, working off the company's (often down) sensor system. By comparison, Shadow Traffic is a class act.

Totally agree. Been with Metro for over a decade. Just wish WW1 would treat us better than they do.

what's the problem with Westwood One? poor management? I know several people at Metro is different cities. they like the work and benefits but say the pay is low and no raises have been given in years.

I wonder with all of the cost cutting that WW1 is doing on the Metro/Shadow side that they might be getting ready to sell it off. I know a lot of people in a number of cities that would be jumping for joy with that move.

be careful--- westwood one could sell Metro/shadow--- to clear channel! would that be worse?
