WESU now 6,000 watts

Thanks for the tip! I'm checking it here in New Britain's south end. There's a bit less noise in the background, but otherwise, it sounds the same. I still have two questions with this:

1- Are they implementing HD Radio?
2- What happens to WMNR-FM 88.1 in Monroe, CT?

1. Not yet. Maybe? There is no digitial notification.
2. WESU is using a directional antenna away from WMNR and WKIV.

Here in Meriden, I can usually get a marginal signal from WLIU at 88.3. That's gone now, covered by splatter from WESU. I'll see how far down I-91 I'll have to go before WLIU returns when I drive to New Haven tomorrow. It shouldn't be far if WESU is protecting a station in Monroe.

881. is a mess in Old Greenwich... instead of a mix of 3 different stations maybe now I get 4

As former TD/CE/OM ect. back in the late 80's I can tell you that in the public file is a reception report from New Jersey back when the station first moved from AM to FM, long before the other stations between here and there existed, I just wish the folks back in the 60's thought about the day when the station could have a chance to upgrade output power and order a transmitter with a higher output than the license so that when the other stations applied they would have a reason to deny instead of sitting back and letting it happen. (ok, I don't know that it happened that way, I hope it didn't). I'm glad that when the opening came along recejntly that WESU took it. It kind of justifys my choice in having selected a 5kW rig evern though we only needed a 1kW rig.

I have noticed the station does come in very clear with minimal static at Sonic in Wallingford, so I can understand a bit of splash on 88.3, but that is to be expected and honestly as close as I am to the tower, I would have expected much more adjacent channel and second adjacent channel noise, but I guess my car stereo has pretty tight selectivity as it's pretty minimal on 87.9 & 88.3 and I get no noise at all on either 87.7 & 88.5.

I have also heard that the station has heard from the New Haven area which it hasn't been heard too well since WMNR came along.

I bet it's nice and strong to the north, though. Into Springfield & Hartford. It was always a "decent" signal anyways before the upgrade.
