WEWZ 106.7 and WWJF 106.7 Start Dates

Can't help you, but some other call signs we remember from 106.7 include WFTL-FM, WJYO (Joy-107), WSDO (Studio-107), and I think WTPX (Tropics). Of course Transtar's Format 41, targeting a mean demographic age of 41 was, I thought, an excellent experiment in satellite delivered programming. Some stations, such as Joy, were very slick, while others like Kozy 770 in Fort Myers left something to be desired.

The Format 41 calls were WJQY. WJYO was the 107.7 in Mt. Dora/Orlando, "Joy 108", whose musical selections c1985 were great stuff.

I didn't even know at first that WJQY was satellite...can't remember how I found out, but I recall the "DJ" saying something like "did you see the paper today? I found *this* interesting---" Natch, the periodical was USA Today!

CD is correct, I meant WGLO
Remember, "The Glow is Back".

I worked fulltime at WFTL and did a lot of part-time work on Joy 107 the old WWJF...I remember when they switched to WSDO,the format didn't last long....Joe Amaturo hated the format......I think it only lasted a few months and switched to WTPX..

Hey Guys:

Here is what I found:

WEWZ 106.7 DEBUTE Feb 25, 1980.

WWJF 106.7 DEBUTE May 11, 1981

and Wikepidea was wrong about the debute date of WRMA from WTPX. WTPX went silent August 23, 1994 at 12mid and WRMA debute on August 24, 1994 at 12:05am not in October of those dates. WRMA Calls were granted on 10-24-94. Found that info from an article in the Sun Sentinal. Just thought I would pass that along.

T.J.
