WEZR/Lewiston, ME topples old tower - on purpose

Bob Perry looked good on Ch 13. But when tower hit the ground it just sounded like someone rattling a chain-link fence!

Was that the old WPNO/ Auburn tower? I remember the 1240 WCOU tower was self supporting and located in the middle of a Lewiston residental neighborhood on the 70s. I bet peoples toasters were full of RF.

Yes, its the orig 1530 WPNO tower. - That in-town self-supporting 1240 tower must have been a nice sight! Anyone have photos? Or were the no tower-geeks in those days?

I did run a search of the Sun Journal archives that mentions the WCOU tower location. http://www.sunjournal.com/node/395767 The one time I was there in the 70s, it was badly rusted and in need of work. I was told that the houses sprang up around it over the years. It looked very out of place.
