WFAA 6PM NEWSCAST ALL MESSED UP

Anyone else see this...some MAJOR technical issues had 8 doing the news from their newsroom this evening...lots of mistakes and Troy did the weather 'off camera'...this had to be an all time low for WFAA....save this tape, it's the worst ch.8 newscast ever broadcast.
Anyone know what happened?

At least it was a slow news day with no major stories to cover! ;-)

Wow, just caught the replay of News 8 at Six on KFWD. That was awful. Another black eye on once was a good newscast -- both in quality reporting and production.

I saw it, but I thought Troy did a good job jumping in there doing the weather cast with what he had to work with. Of course he has the experience to handle these situtations when they pop up.

I expect that a lot of their problems are caused by the behind the scenes personnel that only had prior experience on Play Station.

Anyone catch their 10pm newscast tonight? It sounded like the John and Gloria's voiceovers that they read for news items were recorded and not live. Is this something new or am I just now noticing it?

many voiceovers with video have been pre-recorded. Last night the volume level seemed to be off and made it easier to notice. It is the same as when a field reporter does a live shot and then goes to video. The voice has been recorded over the video already.

Is that relatively new at 8? I've never seen anyone routinely pre-record the routine VO's or even vo/sots. You'll see the occasional anchor-package but those don't come up often.

One source said TXU was working on power grids in Dallas ,and some of the downtown area around 5p. Sounds like some of their equip was not rebooted in time. You mean this one replaces the 10 pm newscast a week ago?? Remember when Ch.8 did the NEWS and Weather?

As someone who has worked for Belo (WFAA's parent company), I can tell you that their cheap standards are really catching up with them. As far as their technical staff goes, it is probably limited and they probably are hiring college kids from SMU, TCU, and other area schools, because they can get them dirt cheap, with little or no benefits. Their station in San Antonio, that I used to work for, is hiring Operations Engineers for less money than I got back when I was hired in 1998. It's really sad that everyone I knew that worked in TV, in North Texas about 10-15 years ago, wanted to work for WFAA, because they were head and shoulders above everyone else... talent, presentation, and content wise. Last time I was up there, even KDFW had a better looking newscast, and that is truly sad. I'm actually surprised that John, Gloria, and Troy are still putting up with it. Is Kathy Clements-Hill still ND there? And, if so, why?!

Its Cathy Clemments..she dropped the HILL when she got a divorce (smart move Mr. Hill). She is the GM. They hired a ND a year ago from Baltimore. So the once Proud WFAA has been sold out and watered down. The Pete Delkus hiring has turned into bad soap opera with a marionette touching his left hand's palm with his right index finger to illustrate the high points of a forecast. Troy will be gone in July. John Mcaa bears and grins it,but for how much longer? Gloria will stay until she starts allowing the gray to take over. When "Breaking News" is the escape of a vulture from the Dallas Zoo that will not pose a threat to humans or pets", then you know journalism there is on life support.
Their website is deplorable. If you want to see the weather radar..ther's a "pop under" as Cathy describes it, the same for any story you want to read.etc. They constantly block what you want to see,not forced to see. Each "pop under" deposits spyware on your pc,tracking your mouse movements to see what products you are interested in. Do you see Ch.4,5,and 11 doing that? Ch.11's website is user friendly and updated more often than ch.8's.
The WHY Guy segments are just plain goofy and taking up air time for something more important. The "mojo" guy on the website is another example of money not well spent.

BELO lives up to its name "BELOw quality,BELOw journalism, BELOw their once cherished reputation and respectability."

Kathy Clements is but only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to problems at the ol' FAA. The real problems lie within the confines of the Belo tower across the street from communications center. They've tried repeating their magic in other markets (NWCN) and gone teets up when they attempted to adapt it here (TXCN). Then theres the hiring of the Single A/bushleague all-stars of news. The last time I checked, Dallas is a top 10 market and Belo, always trying to save a buck, brings in talent from the likes of market #105. Whomever cleared the hiring of both Man-Gorilla Brad Hawkings and Pete "I Could'nt Make It In The Majors" Delkus should be dragged out in the street and beaten repeatedly.

Brad is good as a street reporter,NOT an anchor.
Alexa has vacant space for rent between dye jobs.
Kathy Clemments is in so much denial of her alleged leadership, she can easily remind history Buffs of Nero fiddling while Rome Burned.

It amazes me that no one on here has any clue to what really goes on at WFAA, Belo, even TXCN since it was mentioned. Perhaps you should get a job at a Belo property, then come back on here and complain all you want!

TXNews, its apparant by the product Belo is putting on the air man. Everything KH has touched has turned to lead my good fellow

I worked for Belo for one year... that's all it took. No thanks.

Is Pete Delkus that bad of a weatherman? I read where the TV station he was working for in Cincinatti offered him a LOT of $$$$ to stay there...............

The one I really don't like on Channel 8 is Steve McCauley. Seems like a nice guy, but I've never seen anyone get a "woody" so quickly over a fast developing new weather system. You'd think the guy was just going to pop out of his skin, at times.

He was really good at the NBC station in Amarillo. Still can't believe he's here.

My best friend works at that station in Cincinnati. It is a distant 3rd in the ratings overall and they have had a revolving door of Meteorologists/Weather People. I'm sure they offered him a lot of money, because they are tired of hiring them every couple of months.

Well Steve got his Master's degree at Tech and I'm a Red Raider through and through so I can't dislike him that much, but he is pretty bad.

Pete Delkus and Jimmy Johnson should have a contest for "perfectly placed hair" :D
