WFAA 8.1

I recently switched to an antenna as a cost cutting move and Sling TV and I realized WFAA has come in MUCH clearer in northern Tarrant county (Keller) then even two years ago, but why are WFAA 8.1 and WFAA 8.8 both in 720P? Is this normal? Also, anyone know what is coming on one of the KFWD subchannels?

8.1 comes off of RF8 WFAA whereas 8.8 comes off RF30 KMPX (Estrella station).
WFAA
KMPX

Since Tegna owns both (for now) it allows folks with UHF only indoor mudflap antennas pick up ABC and putting them on par signal wise with the other Big 4 stations. In other markets (Minneapolis, MN for example) Tegna got a rules modification to move from RF11 (KARE NBC) to RF31, again putting them on par signal wise with the other Big 4 stations.

i don't know why WFAA downgraded their PQ to 720p, i bet it had something to do with ABC only broadcasting in 720p at this moment, which the FCC declare 1080p as the standard HD PQ.

The 1080i was a Belo thing and those people are probably mostly gone at this point. I too have wondered why they bothered to change. On one hand 1080i does look better to my eyes, but when all of their syndicated content comes in as 720, they are doing a lot of converting and upscaling. KVUE is 720P now too I believe.

I am not aware of the FCC declaring anything. The options for HD broadcasting were 1080i or 720p. The new ATSC 3.0 does not have the interlacing configuration.
