WFAA CH.8 SCRAMBLING FOR SOUNDPROOFING

10 pm news was hysterical! Gloria was visibly peeved,John was in a "waht can ya do?" mode. Pete Delkus was perturbed and getting ticked. All because of some lame brain promotions director,GM.etc. Decided to have the newscast done from the Victory center. Sheer brilliance. The windows are not thick enough to block the outside crowd noise, and they were rowdy. A couple of camera shots of Gloria showed her trying to get by,but visibly angry. The camera turned away quickly to John as one person tried to moon her. One sign said "watch Fox 4"! When Pete was trying to do the weather you could hear yelling, screaming, and a few whoops in the background. After Pete was concluding he turned to John and Gloria then said"ya know if the temperature was a little more colder perhaps that person who is sticking his tongue out outside would touch a pole and get stuck". His face was a little red than when he started.

I think they need to stick to "Good Morning Texas" when using the window and hire security as well.

I actually thought it was kind of hilarious. Did they really expect Mavs Fan to be on his/her best behavior? Especially, after they've had a few adult beverages?

Best newscast all year! ;)

Wow, and you thought it would be a tea and crumpets crowd for the 10p....I hope they repeat this next week for the NHL all-star game, it'll certainly boost their sagging 10p program. While they're at it, lets have Gloria Campos flash the crowd for maximum effect :D

Seeing that WFAA made another misstep yesterday (delayed weather coverage + announcing DISD was closed), dont expect anything amazing from the news department for the next few weeks..

I can hear Marty Haag and Mike Shapiro now....

It was embarrassing to see Channel 8 try to change the focus to "why didn't the DISD cancel school." They admitted their mistake, but tried to shift the blame to the DISD for not canceling school that day. The other embarrassing thing was seeing the other stations mention channel 8 by name as being the ones responsible for the DISD snow day confusion.

I have been watching some of the old DFW news clips that have been posted on YouTube, and its has reminded me just how different the news presentation was 15 or 20 years ago. All the flashy sound effects and graphics we see today ("BREAKING NEWS!!!," "CONTINUING COVERAGE!!!," etc.) make me sick. Things sure were different back when Channel 8 had Tracy Rowlett and John Criswell as their anchors, or when Channel 5 had Brad Wright and Alyce Caron.

My advise to the news directors: Allow the anchors to just sit down at the anchor desk and present the news, without needless dramatics and over-the-top promotion. Get rid of the on-screen clutter.

(To see these YouTube clips, type WFAA, KXAS, or KDFW into the search box. And thanks to those who posted the clips!)

I agree, but until they get over with their coverage of Britany Spears/Paris Hilton/JessicaSimpson phobia calling it "news", journalism is on vacation. The excuse is "news is boring" So they try to jazz it up. It goes back to their 18-35" demographic phobia appeal. They want to make it "hip"instead of actually letting good journalism draw in an audience. Until then, expect more "Victory Square " fiascos.

And here is the icing on the cake...

I am smack dab in the middle of the 18-35 demographic that supposedly craves such mindless filth.

This is what makes me so mad about Fox 4 News at 9:00 p.m.
They spend about 10 minutes on American Idol updates each night. To me, that is truly a non news story............I'd like to see them give that 10 minutes to Mike Doocy so we can have more sports in the 9:00 p.m. newscast. Now that would be different !!

Amen. I recognize I'm on the high end of the demographic they so covet, but I can't handle the crap that passes for news in D-FW. I grew up here watching true journalism with people like Brad and Alyce on KXAS and John and Tracy on WFAA. Now? I get my news online or in my daily newspaper (for those of us who live in Tarrant County, the Star-Telegram is the only place we find our news) Oh well, at least the shenanigans at Victory are worth a laugh or two....
