WFAA:DUMBING THE WEATHER PART 2;THE INFOMERCIAL

They now have Pete extolling the virtues of the weatherbug. Ch.5 KXAS has had a long time association with the Weatherbug. The introduction to the 10 pm weather is getting more and more amatuerish from 2 professionals. The weatherbug by the way is NOT good to have on your computer. You must agreed to have some ADWARE in order for it to work .Pete does not tell you that plus it installs spyware. It also takes quite a bit of memory. Troy go ahead and retire,it appears management doesn't appear to know what they are doing .

Some family member once downloaded it on my computer back when I was still using dialup. Sure gummed up things when getting on the internet. I finally zapped it as it had turned into a pain in the neck.

Unfortunately many, if not most of those "free" programs and services, downloadable on various websites, have some ulterior motive. Beware.

Ever notice Troy will usually have his arms crossed when they cut over to him? He doesn't like this either.

It wouldn't be so bad if maybe they stuck Pete out in the field or something, covering a weather type story. Instead you cram both of them into the shot for some stupid intro.

Most of the population isn't that stupid. Most of them know Pete is going to take over. Why not simply have Pete do the weather 1 or 2 nights a week until Troy retires? It'd be so much more graceful.

Graceful--now let's see. When is the last time a television station had room
for grace in making a transition in on-air people?

Good point you make, but count on the station to make the change over as cumbersome and over bearing as possible. Right again, also, on them taking this approach and thinking no one knows what's really going on.

I thought the Harold Taft illness and transition to David was done pretty well by KXAS back in the early 1990s. It was a very sad and tragic situation but handled about as well as possible.

Look at KTRK in Houston where Tim Heller has been brought in to eventually replace legend Ed Brandon. Very slow, long term transition.

Yeah..but compared to tim heller, pete's a minor league spitballer, literally

Forgot about the Taft to Finfrock transition. You're right, it was indeed handled with an unusual degree of grace.

Yes, it was handled well. However, in the months before his death, the commercials that they ran with Harold "blessing" his hand-picked weather team were downright eerie. At the time, my friends were wondering if they had pre-taped any commercials to show after he had died. "Now that I'm gone, I expect that you'll continue to watch the Texas News 5 Weather Team David Finfrock, Scott Chesner, and Rebecca Miller."

In some cases, it comes with the computer when you buy it -- Weatherbug activated itself a week after I bought my computer. After two years, it started bogging the computer down with adware. When I got a new hard drive, with a fresh install of Windows XP, I promptly deleted Weatherbug.

Believe me -- Weatherbug (and similar software) is bad news -- if you can read the or use a weather website, you don't need Weatherbug.

I think the better replacement for when Troy retires is Steve McCauley the weekend guy... sometimes it's right under your nose and yet one completely skips it..
