WFAA rolls out WVEC Norfolk on 8.2

As of 10:30 pm this evening, it seems as Irene makes it onshore, WFAA is giving North Texans a point of view from their sister station, WVEC 13 in Norfolk, VA.

As of 5:45am saturday, Belo stations KVUE in Austin and KENS in San Antonio sticking with their normal weather subchannels.

WFAA's still showing WVEC as of 10:35 am.

I don't think it's Accuweather. It's all local... and it's .3. KVUE and KENS use .2 for Spanish language Estrella TV.

BTW-- directv is providing local coverage of the hurricane on channel 259. Earlier saturday it was WVEC. Now they've switched to WABC from NYC.

Does the channel's brand of weather software really matter? Most stations subscribe to some kind of weather graphics package. That gives their meteorologists more time to focus on local weather instead of graphics design. The viewers mainly want local weather with local people doing the on-camera stuff. That's what KVUE and KENS deliver on their weather subchannel, regardless of how they do it.

If KVUE's doing what I've seen on WFAA's weather channel, it's not just AccuWeather software. You see AccuWeather's programming, including talent, in between local cut-ins.
