WFAA's Dialing for Dollars

who was the host before THE GREAT Ed Hogan? I think it was Don....something. He reminded me at the time of Don Knotts.

Are you thinking about Don Norman? He was a booth announcer for Channel 8 back around that time.

That's the one. There were three hosts over the years: the late Ed Hogan, Don Norman (who also played "The Frito Kid" and other various roles on Channel 8-produced programming in their earliest days, IIRC) and Bob Bruton (later the PD at KXOL.) Not sure if Norman's still around, but Bruton is. Hogan died one year ago this week at age 86. :'(

I didn't realize that D4D was more like a national franchise!

Also, there was a post on the web from someone who mentioned Warren Anderson as the host of Ch 8's "Dialing" show...first I've heard of that. I did find out that both Warren and Don Norman were disc jockeys at WFAA-AM and flexed over to the TV side when needed. No word on if Don's still around, but did find where he left the overnight DJ chair at WFAA-AM in August, 1970, when his 21 year-old son was killed in a motorcycle accident at UTA. Don went over to the news dept at Ch 8 thereafter.

Yes the guy I was thinking of was Don Norman. I just found my audio file of WFAA's Kennedy coverage. He didn't identify himself, but I recognized his voice when he gave the station ID.
