WFAN 101.9 has not been in HD since Hurricane Sandy

I noticed that WFAN-FM 101.9's HD transmitter has been off since the hurricane. The last few days of WRXP weren't in HD either.

101.9's HD transmitter had been off for 2 months in the summer, then the HD returned when WRXP returned.

Wonder if their HD transmitter got destroyed for good in the hurricane.

There was no damage to any facilities at Empire from Sandy. The damage was to AM sites, mostly the ones in the Meadowlands, from high water levels there. It would take one heck of a high water level to reach a transmitter on the 85th floor of Empire. ;)

As mentioned by thataveragejoe, it's likely off in order to better match up the 660 and 101.9 audio. 660 dropped their HD signal as well shortly after the simulcast began.

The start of the simulcast occurred on Thu. 11/1/12 at 11:57pm. It is pure coincidence datewise with the Sandy storm that started on Mon. 10/29/12.

From that time period, see my post on the "WFAN-FM..." thread on Sat. 11/3/12 re: audio and HD signals on the affected frequencies:

And it appears to still be off during WRXP's third (albeit brief) go-round in NYC. :D

That will be the time when I start - I said, start - thinking about the possibility of global climate change.

Until then, I'll continue to laugh at the the "flat-earth" algore followers.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

WFAN-FM may be reaching for the "bleachers" long-term, and putting every milliwatt of its transmitter power into its analog mono signal, both to serve as much of its existing AM audience on FM as it can, and to compete with its FM sports-talk rival WEPN.

So, stereo and HD may not be regular features on 101.9 for a very long time.

Yeah, but the HD was gone from 101.9 the day of Hurricane Sandy, before the simulcast.
