WFAN AM HD Demo

http://download.yousendit.com/D848CB4C32E919D5

Here's a short demo of WFAN AM HD. I've edited out the commercials and cut together two segments which show off the HD sounds as well as the silent noise floor. Listen towards the end when the stop talking and you'll hear silence, not the typical AM background noise. The Demo is in wav format to lessen the effects of cascading codecs.

Hmmm...that first voice kinda benefits from AM. A little sibilant, but Paul Turner sounds good.

Sorry man, it says you've exceeded your download limit. Want me to host it on my website? How big is the file? And can you e-mail something that big? (as big as your file)

Try it tomorrow Mike. Once you get it you are more than welcome to repost it on your site. That would be helpful.

It's still saying you've "exceeded your download limit" (6:17am EDT Tues June 19).

I'll repost it later today, e-mail you the link and if you can download it for distribution that would be great, OK?

I'd be happy too. I might convert it to Windows Media Lossless, if that's ok. Half the space, with no quality loss.

I think it sounds great. Anyone who understands codecs knows that voice is actually much more difficult to make sound right at low bitrates than music. Music is more complex, hence there are more places for artifacts to hide.

I hear none of the artifacts on this sample that I've heard on other AM HD samples. The highs are nice and crisp, too...great sense of intelligibility and presence. This sample gives me hope, and I look forward to there being some AM HD to listen to in my "neck of the woods".

Wow,

The lack of noise is wonderful. Very listenable, especially when on speakers. Thanks RF.

Well, it sounds better than the AM we consumers get from most of our radios, that's for sure. But the bar is set so low, it ain't hard to better it.

I don't like the way the audio is "crackly" sounding. It's odd, but I think I could get used to it on talk, but probably not for music. The audio in this sample is crunchier than a bowl of Corn Flakes.

On an unrelated note, that Mike & The Mad Dog opening ditty makes me want to put toothpicks in my eyes.
