WFAN-AM

I think it would be a huge mistake for WFAN-AM to air CBS Sports Radio. It would be a huge waste for a 50,000 watt clear channel signal, if they air national sports talk.

I've listened to CBS Sports Radio and was not impressed. Boring boring boring. If CBS puts this on 660, terrible mistake. It will never make it in New York.

"Would be" a mistake sounds like it hasn't happened yet. It has. On FAN and other CBS AM stations. The real FAN has moved to FM. This gets CBS sports network cleared in New York (even if almost everybody is now listening to FAN-FM).

The bigger waste are the stations running syndicated talk which did not port a local line-up over to FM - mostly because they killed off their local line-up long ago.

You got it right, Fred! As I've posted before, just look at Detroit and Philly where you've got CBS SR full-time on AM, live and local sports talk on FM. This is CBS' national strategy. No doubt CBS wants its sports radio network cleared in New York and on a 50 kW AM blaster to boot.

I'm with you also regarding talk radio. WABC's syndicated drivel wouldn't find a fountain of youth if it moved to FM. Cumulus gave WMAL (with virtually the same lineup as WABC) in DC a full-market FM and it hasn't helped them at all. :)

Basically, Cumulus and Premiere have talk radio syndication to themselves. Salem is still around, of course. Fox has a couple of shows. Dial Global no longer has a conservative talk entry. Both Cumulus and Premiere have wall to wall talk line-ups throughout the day, evening and overnight. It appears both are moving to operating competing conservative talk "networks" with their local stations in New York and elsewhere functioning as repeaters - a computer in a closet hooked to a satellite dish and a transmitter. Salem is already there in most markets (with New York an exception for now; Boyce loves Sliwa). The only AM stations which were a force in the market 50 years ago that still have local programming to speak of are the two all news stations.

What would you call "Overnight America with Jon Grayson"? That show originates at CBS O & O KMOX St. Louis. I think WNYM in New York picks it up in this market. :)

Their website lists Hermain Cain (who replaced Neil Boortz) and Dennis Miller, as well as Jim Bohannon, who is probably more of a moderate.

Why split the simulcast... we need Francessa talking about the playoffs between "da Ranguhs an da Broons" ;D

Please, Julius, stick to what you know (Philly)...especially if you contribute NOTHING ELSE to the thread except a half-assed statement.

He did get everyone talking. What's curious is Julius usually complains when a sports station does not run national programming (i.e., ESPN or play-off games not involving local teams). This is a switch: Calling for local programming instead of the national feed - especially since the local shows are available on FM (and online in Philly).

He is talking about an issue that has been discussed since November when the switch was made. So, nothing is really new in that respect. All Julius needed to do was go back and read the past threads on this issue. No need to start a new one on something that has been beaten to death already, and then add nothing of real substance to the discussion. That's all I'm saying.

He should stick to worrying about CBS's Philadelphia station group and whether KYW will ever get that FM simulcast that he's been foaming at the mouth for...

How much inventory does CBS need per hour? Can't be that many minutes. Run the spots. Use the network programming on overnights and late Saturday-Sunday nights. Keep the simulcast.
