WFAN Currently off HD

I noticed WFAN has turned off their HD signal durin the Mets baseball game. Are they required to stop broadcasting in HD at sunset ? WCBS 880 is broadcasting in HD now but they will probably turn off HD at sunset. Still there's a question why WNYC 820 is allowed to broadcast HD 24/7 ? Anyone know the answer ?

WFAN turns off their HD so that there's little delay for Mets fans who want to listen to the radio broadcast and watch cable TV at the same time.

I don't belive this is the reason...why have the ability to use HD and not use it ? I hope they WFAN will turn on HD for day time games. WCBS 880 is using HD up to sunset, they don't seem to concerned with time delay for Cable TV.

there is like a 7-10 second or more delay with the IBOC on to keep it in sync with the analog (so there is a proper blend to analog from the IBOC... since its a digital transmission and not analog, thus some fans get angry if they are listening at the ball park or watching cable-tv and listening to the radio audio then they would get screwed up, so most stations that are running sports, kill the IBOC durning the games.

I suspect once the techology takes off, you may see it happen less, but who knows at this point.

I have my information directly from WFAN engineering. I can't say what CBS does for the Yanks but FAN shuts there's down for the Mets.

WGN Chicago does not turn off the HD during a game. They just dont delay the analog signal during the game. WTMJ Milwaukee does the same thing.

I haev seen more than once that the Harris HD Exciter needs to go back to the factory for adjustments. It happened to WSCR and WBBM, and WGN is now HD silent for such a repair.
