WFAN-FM Could Begin Thu. 11/1/12??

According to a blurb in the RadioInfo newsletter of Tues. 10/23/12, the CBS LMA with 101.9 is expected to begin on Thursday, November 1st, 2012.
Stay tuned...early speculation when the sale was announced was that the simulcast would begin in mid-November.

That date would coincide with the NBA's Brooklyn Nets regular season debut vs. the N.Y. Knicks at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
The game will be broadcast on WEPN (Knicks 'cast) and WFAN (Nets 'cast). Could be the first of many NYC FM sports broadcast duels.
Mike Francesa's WFAN/YES afternoon show will also be on hand for a live remote from the arena.

In addition, all of the WRXP sales staff was blown out after Fri. 10/19/12 and all non-AFTRA employees were also shown the door.

I find it odd that WFAN hasn't been blanketing their airwaves and website with "coming soon to 101.9 FM" promos. I guess they're waiting until the LMA starts - at which point, will their new positioner just be "Sports Radio WFAN"? If it's true that Cumulus has purchased 94.7 to clear the new CBS Sports Radio Network, then 66 could indeed continue as local WFAN for many more years to come.

True? It's barely even a remote possibility, something made up here on these message boards. Those in the know at CBS have been saying that it's not gonna happen. Not even a chance. Nobody's dumb enough to run a national network on a class B in market 1, not even on an impared FM.

And I'm skeptical of that, for the reasons you point out, as well. Of course, many are saying that 94.7 could go rock or country, and neither may be what Cumulus has planned for the frequency. Heck, name one person that accurately predicted that the FM station that would become ESPN's home on the band was 98.7. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

And don't forget that before Cumulus, an ABC/Citadel FM station in market 3 devoted all or a large portion of its schedule to the satellite-delivered True Oldies Channel (and has only dropped it recently).

I wonder if it will turn into a branding like "102 FAN" or similar, like "94WIP" in Philly?

This is horrible, we don't need another sports station. WFAN go back to AM!

WFAN was going to FM no matter what, unfortunately it's not going to 92.3 what most people wanted.

I don't think it was so much what people wanted as much as it would have been easier and a logical choice.

1.) Since all they had to do was flip a switch from hd-x to hd-1 is easier than patching across the room.

2.) If HD had been accepted as well, 92.3 would have already been in people's heads as the freq. to go for WFAN on FM. Half the battle would be over.

Further proof that it is an uphill battle for HD radio.

The perceived failure of "FM News" and subsequent sale made the availability of an alternative to 92.3 possible.

92.3 and 102.7 listeners shouldn't feel safe now that CBS acquired 101.9 for WFAN. WCBS Newsradio and WINS could eventually headed for FM as well. With the acquisition of 101.9, CBS now has the room for the news stations. :)

With this latest activity on 101.9, I find it ironic that it was FM that did in AM several years ago...
and now it's showing signs of going the other way around.

WFAN-FM. Starts Friday On A Radio Near You.

Mike Francesa has confirmed that WFAN will begin simulcasting on 101.9 FM starting Friday.

RadioInsight gives the time of the switchover of 101.9 to WFAN FM. It is set to occur at midnight, right at the beginning of Friday, Nov. 2.

RadioInsight is saying that the flip will occur at midnight on the 2nd.

Methinks that at 12:01 AM Thursday morning, WRXP will turn over to CBS, play it's last song, begin stunting by making regular announcements that New Rock has ceased to be, and stunt until midnight.

I saw an ironic tweet earlier today from WFAN's account that if 660 goes off the air due to the storm it will go to 92.3.

Yep.
All they will have to do is flip the switch. The audio is already "in the box".
