WFAN Hires Winner of Talent Search

WFAN recently had a talent contest. The winner would be given an air shift. According to an article in today's NY Daily news, the 22 year old winner has been chosen. He had some prior experience doing shows on college radio. Apparently he will be initially given a late night weekend shift.
It seems quite unusual for a major market station to hire an on air personality in this manner, but may be a good idea.
The person selected from the open auditions: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2010/09/01/2010-09-01_rookie_joins_wfan_lineup.html

Remember, this isn't the first time a sports radio station in New York hired an on-air personality using such a method. Remember when ESPN had their "Dream Job" show several years ago? Around the same time, 1050 ESPN Radio held a similar contest for an aspiring radio talent. To this day, the winner of that contest, Jon Rothstein, still works at 1050 ESPN doing "SportsCenter" updates. It will be interesting to see if WFAN's contest winner lasts as long at The Fan, as Rothstein has or will at 1050 ESPN.

Thank you for the mention. I was just about to post my article here when I saw your post. Yes, I am the new New York radio reporter for Examiner.com. In the future, I will post a link to all of my articles. Thank you again for your support.
