WFAN off the air, and E-Skip's gone crazy?

I'm not a big engineering guy, so I'm not sure if this is skip or what the hell is going on. I know WFAN's signal is pretty massive, but I think the reverse is going on right now.

I usually go to bed listening to WFAN. Right now, I can't get WFAN at all (just static as of 1:44 am), but I'm getting WCSR from Chicago on 670 crystal clear, and I'm getting 650 WSM from Nashville.

I'm halfway expecting Dennis Quaid to talk to me from 1969 next.

That's pretty normal. That's just skywave. You probably don't normally hear WSCR (The Score) or WSM because of the splatter from The Fan. Monday morning is a normal time for stations to do maintanance, so that's probably why they were off air.

I would have to agree thats normal fo 2am on a sunday night. wouldn't they have a back-up transmitter up and running then?
I know when I watch tv (ariel ny from greenwich ct when I home) ny channels sometimes have the signals turned off for a few seconds probably for maitnence.
on another interesting note, In the early morning hours wcbs 880, comes in like its a local station up here in northern vt

WCBS and WFAN were doing maintenance over the weekend (both on & off the air). See my earlier post about WCBS Volume. Only people with ridiculous comments have answered so far.

People in the NY metro area are at a distinct disadvantage over most other regions of the country when it comes to DXing the broadcast band. We have so many radio stations covering both the AM & FM spectrum, many of which are relatively high powered 50 KW non D's that our radios are desenced to a large degree. I flew with friends to the Deleware water gap a few years ago and on a old transistor radio I was able to listen to WHO in Iowa clearly. Try that in NYC, or for that matter try listening to stations like WBZ here in Manhattan. WCBS AM comes in like a local near Hartford Conneticut during the day, yet a 50 K non D, WTIC is barely audible here.
