WFAN to 101.9

CBS will have to sell either 1010 or Channel 55. Selling an FM wouldn't make any sense, they'd be there they started, and highly unlikely they give up one of the 2 Clear Channel AMs.

I'm gonna guess 660 will be sold.

Why sell the best facility in New York when they could dispose of 1010 and move to 660?

What if they don't move it? Does CBS see an edge in only having 1 news outfit, which would be back to 24hr news with the Yankees out of the way. ...Not that it's likely.

The whole story of 101.9 and Merlin is outrageous.
They killed the original RXP, put on a news format that no one listened to, put a better RXP in it's place when the investors wised up, and then sold 101.9 to CBS. New York had modern rock station for a whole 4 months...

The Kiss FM story is also just as outrageous, actually it's worse. The station was number 4, sold to ESPN, and now 98.7 is now in almost last place. So New York needs ANOTHER FM spots station??

These fat old cigar smoking men don't care about what people actually want to hear, just the "balance sheet." Radio is a truly awful industry. I went into college in 1998, and graduated in 2002. Got a degree in radio/tv (radio is my true love), so glad I went into advertising instead.

As long as CBS FM doesn't go away, oh the humanity!!!!!!!!!!

The cowards at 101.9 took down their Facebook page this morning which had almost 19,000 likes......I guess they didn't want the backlash which I think would have been real ugly as this is the 2nd time rock fans are getting screwed

I saw that. Believe me, this is the end of modern rock in NYC. Why would their audience come back again after getting sucker punched like this?

So, come November there will be two all sports stations on FM. I know CBS wants to simulcast WFAN on FM, but how well will it do? WEPN is now the new WEMP, last place in the ratings, but a better product.

I must be one of the few males with little or no interest in sports. When I scan a radio dial.I will skip any religous, Spanish(or any foreign language) brokered or Sports station. That means very little on the AM band. I always stop at a talker, all news or a music station with oldies or some kind of nostalgia format.

Personally, I think there is an overkill of all sports stations, and with CBS starting up soon, there will be more. In South Florida there are four sports stations, all very audible...and now five with the simulcast of 790 on 104.3. How does the third or fourth rated sports talker make any money?

It was much maligned, but I did enjoy WEMP. It was no WCBS or WINS,and I was hoping if Merlin hung on onto it, it would turn into a good live and local news and talk station that is sorely needed in New York.

What a riduculous decision! Finally a decent alternative station in the city what it does well in the ratings, they blow it up, before there is a decent schedule with airstaffers. 2 FM sport stations in the city, I don't believe it. Useless.
Sad for all those alternative music lovers in the city to see this station gone again. It's like a bone for a dog, you show him, and than take it away again.
And why wait until mid november? This jukebox with some VT's is totally useless at the moment. Pull the plug and go.

I wonder if they will sell 1010 and move WINS to WWFS 102.7 or WXRK 92.3...
I'm thinking they end up doing that since CBS probably doesn't wanna let go of either of their very profitable news stations even though they'll likely have to dump an AM.

I'll just add that I'm honestly surprised 92.3 is still on the air as is. It's been 3.5 years since they started with this format and it looks like they haven't made any dent against Z100. And as far as I know the demos are just as disappointing.

Move the RXP calls to 92.3 "New York's, New Rock... 92.3 RXP"... Please don't hate me... If theyprogram it like KROQ, with obvious local sensabilities, it could do quite well. I am/was addicted to RXP v2, and I'm sad to see that it will disappear.

Unlikely. I would not be surprised if they did what they just did in LA with KFWB last year. (trust)

LEE i was just about too type that wow Great minds think alike

An old work colleague once told me, "radio isn't rocket science" I loved the fact that RXP v2 was very current intensive. To me it obviously worked, as they attract 1 million people in 2 months.

That's a big change! I would love to see Merlin going out of business very soon. Merlin didn't make any money for this company. What a failure. First, Merlin bought WRXP and sold off Emmis and then to "FM News" and fail miserably and went to rock for a few months and then BAM! CBS came in and knock Merlin to the punch. Merlin is a horrible company that owned three stations that failed to do so in Philadelphia and Chicago. Randy Michaels wants to be fired and shut down Merlin because of poor money. All I got to say is in the mortal words of Porky Pig "Th-th-that's all folks!"

Adios Merlin!!!!

And I just forgot to mention that "New Rock" is up in the ratings, but that won't last for long, but I hope this station makes WRRV a lot worst than it did. WRRV is a new rock station in HV area and it did well for over the last 13 or 14 years as "New Rock Alternative". I hope NY needs to get rid of that format that looks like a NYC's version of WRRV and run with it. Take it to Cumulus for a safe spot. You should listen to WRRV online. There is a stream included. You should check it out. This would prevent the loss of "New Rock" WRXP until CBS takes over later this month. Go there.
