WFAS is adding the Clarke Howard Show (syndicated by Cox WSB) to their afternoon lineup, preceding Lisa Wexler. That's a step in the right direction.
Lisa Wexler is an incredibly talented talk show host. Her show on WSTC/WNLK was cut short by the sale of those AM frequencies to WSHU Public Radio (for a reported $500k for the pair!)
For a few weeks, Wexler persevered on the Internet working out of her home and was then successful at landing the 4-6pm slot on WFAS. She has shifted her focus to that geographic area (Southern Connecticut's loss is Westchester's gain) and is actually sounding better than ever. I can't get WFAS on my radio in Connecticut but I stream the show whenever possible.
I believe WSHU missed a great opportunity by not hiring Lisa Wexler, but I suspect her independent thinking and outspokenness would not have been a good fit with the rather bland, carefully produced, "canned" sounding fare of Public Radio. Better we should hear pre-recorded shows from Canada or the BBC rather than a spontaneous, live, local show from a woman who is passionate about what's happening in our own back yard and passionate about local radio!
WFAS is owned by Cumulus. WICC is owned by Cumulus. It's my hope that Cumulus will see the potential in Lisa Wexler and simulcast her on WICC. If that doesn't happen, I hope she gets a shot at NYC radio, although I don't suppose either WABC nor WOR has the imagination to make that happen.
