Over 7 million for a signal that covers only a small part of the NY market. I think Cumulus did OK on this deal. Where will they clear their Westwood 1 programming now?
They're holding onto WFAS-AM for now.
A digital-only AM station that most people cannot pick up.
I never said it was perfect!
They list 33 radio stations, and only three are AM. So they might differ with you.
They also own 26 FM translators.

VCY America got it's start on FM. This was back when nobody wanted to be on FM. It was in the early 1960s. They got their early airtime because station owners needed someone to either be on the air, or to run their station. There was no money in FM.
They will do AM, but FM is their thing.
Their flagship was originally used for it's subcarrier. The owner ran Muzak on the subcarrier. VCY programmed the main signal.
They own a TV station, WVCY-TV. They got 76 Million for the frequency a few years ago and now channel share. Since then, they've been buying stations for a few million.
Very modest operation. Always was. The flagship doesn't have RDS. But they've slowly been adding modern technical things

They play a lot of music. Mostly traditional hymns.
Same with Moody Bible Radio. I saw lots of FMs, only a few AMs. In the case of both Moody and VCY I see a lot of stations in the commercial part of the FM band too. We already know EMF has a lot of stations in the commercial band.
People wonder what will happen to FM radio when iHeart and everyone else goes away. This is what will happen. Because no one else is buying radio.
