WFAS Westchester on Poughkeepsie Translator

Anyone notice WFAS/WFAF on the Poughkeepsie 106.3 translator replacing WDST? Since WFAF is itself on 106.3, at first I thought the Poughkeepsie translator was off the air, and WFAF itself was coming through. But, no, it is the Poughkeepsie translator rebroadcasting WFAS/WFAF. Why would Cumulus want to do that? especially with a format similar to WCZX (including John Tesh on WFAS 10a-3p). And they can't possibly be picking WFAF up direct off-air on 106.3, because the translator is itself broadcasting on 106.3!! Yet the text display says "Westchester's Best Mix, 106.3 WFAS". This whole situation just seems strange to me.

Is this still happening? I will check on my ride through tonight.

The stick is in Highland, its probably less than college radio power (maybe 10 watts), I think you probably got a phase in from WFAF.

When 106.3 was WVIP, and the stick was at the Darlington Road site in Mt. Kisco, the signal would very easily wiggle up through Hosner Mountain and be heard in Wappinger. I remember being totally flabergasted hearing the station on in a deli in Walden, NY. But that was a long time ago. Tom Firsy was there at the time.

I guess I was wrong. Driving in downtown Poughkeepsie late this afternoon I noticed the 106.3 translator is off the air, while I'm still getting a good WFAF signal at my house. I had forgotten how well WFAF comes in up here without the WDST translator on the air. The WFAF signal did seem to peak with the antenna aimed toward the translator in Highland instead of Mt. Kisco, however.

106.3 WFAF came in Carpenter Road over to Route 82. Fuzzed out by the lake, then came in pretty good on Noxon Road up the elementary school. Came in great over by Green Haven too.

Yeah.. who needs WCTW on a translator anyway? Especially when you don't hear those cat roaring jingles anymore !! LOL
