Cumulus Media is sucking the life out of WFAS Radio. If they are reading this ... I hope they sell the station to someone who can afford it and re-hire all the people they laid off...give raises to those still there and make it a better place to be again.

Re: 103.9 WFAS-FM

Here is the deal with 103.9 WFAS-FM....They recently put The John Tesh Radio Show on middays 10-3 replacing Mary DeSilva.....The All 80's Lunch was dropped after it doing for many years....DeSilva is still with the station but now only doing Saturday 3-7.....This leaves WFAS-FM automated except for Morning and Afternoon drive weekdays...They are still live during serveral dayparts on the weekend and Friday night for Friday Night 80's.....Although I really don't listen to AC music, WFAS-FM sounds terrible....JT on middays is horrible b/c you can tell its automated....After a song you will hear "103.9 WFAS" (in JT's voice) then he will just start talking about some stupid thing or give advice (like here are 3 things to save on fuel this winter) then when finished you will again here "103.9 WFAS" and the music starts again.....I guess Cumulus doesn't really care about the station anymore since they will probably sell it when it moves to the WFUV site.....They don't even have RDS on the station (yet 106.3 WFAF has RDS).....It you want AC in Westchester you are best to tune to 100.7 WHUD.....They have always been a far more superior to WFAS-FM and the ratings have always showed it.....WHUD is sill local weekdays and have a much better sound & mix of music.

Now if you were talking about 1230 WFAS I believe they are now nothing but automated 24/7.....They were live some dayparts but I think that has all been cut.

WFAS is a heritage radio station of westchester. Jay Michaels wins Best DJ every year at the Best of Westchester party. WHUD is primarily upper westchester and putnam plus all their DJs sound like they are on valium. I know what happened to Mary DeSilva and that was a huge mistake for the station. WFAS is sinking because the Dickey crew don't care about it and the lives it affects everyday. The Dickey crew don't know how to run a company that's why they almost went under the first time for bad number booking. Let someone else take over and shock the station with a defribilator. Losing Mary DeSilva was the final nail in the coffin. The station that WFAS does have to worry about is The Peak and although they are rock they seem to copy everything WFAS does. The Peak is a page out of the WFAS book.

Didn't Jimmy Fink of 107.1 The Peak WXPK win "Best Radio Personality" by the readers of Westchester Magazine this past year?

I believe that WXPK is a great station.....They really seem to care about the music and its listeners....I have been listening to them ever since they first signed on back in April 2004.....They have also kept their main airstaff since sign on (Jimmy Fink, Rob Arrow, Chris Herrmann/PD)......I thought that they would have had trouble when WRXP signed on but they kept it together and did not change their sound....I am not sure how well the ratings are but they must be ok considering they have been on the air for close to 5 years now....WXPK's biggest problems is their signal.....In Bergen County they have serious signal issues with WWZY stepping all over them....Even in Valley Cottage, NY (about 4 miles from the WXPK transmitter) there are areas when WWZY jumps in over WXPK....Too bad they could not be on a cleaner signal.....When WFAS-FM moves it will only help WXPK for people who are looking for a true local station.....106.3 WFAF will never be able to take over for 103.9 since their signal is one of the worst commercial signals in the NYC area.

Did Jimmy Fink win "Best of" this year? I've just moved back to the area...

FAS-FM is on life support until the Bronx move. I would not be surprised if the AM is sold to some religious or brokered outfit.

Maybe they'll throw what's left of 103.9 onto 106.3 once they've sold 103.9. However, 106.3 does not really have the juice to be a stand-alone entity, IMHO.

As far as "Best of Westchester" goes, those things are rigged and worthless. The "winners" are directly correlated to the amount of advertising the "winner" does in the publication giving the so-called award. Westchester Magazine has no journalistic integrity. It's an advertisement from cover to cover.

Is it just the tower moving or will the offices move as well?

What company is looking to buy?

103.9 has a CP to move to the WFUV site in the Bronx.....Talks are that as soon as the move takes place Cumulus will sell it since they do not own any stations in NYC.......Right now nobody has offered interest in purchasing the station.....The offices will probably remain on Secor Rd since the transmitter site right behind the studio will still be used for 1230 WFAS.

It's alway been my contention that they want the proceeds from the sale (once on the new tower) so they can make a cash offer to buy Star in Atlanta from Lincoln and build a hot cluster in their backyard.

The place has not been the same Since Kevin Collins left....
