WFAX 1220/100.7 sold to Spanish Operator

On the one hand does the area need another Spanish language station? On the other hand the area has plenty of Christian stations. Still 70 years is a good run for any radio station.

If it provides a music mix, or even a genre of music, unavailable on the area's other Spanish-language stations, then yes, it's a station the area needs. As David reminds us so often, "Spanish" is not a format, and there are many ways to program Spanish-language stations, just as in English. If the new owner of WFAX wanted to install an English-language alternative rock or classic R&B format, would you be asking if the area needs "another English station"?

I was musing, the market is pretty saturated with many Spanish language music/mix/genre stations. And yes I would ask the same if the signal were doing an English language format already covered in the market, considering it's a (near) AM daytimer with a limited FM translator. From the article looks like they'll be doing "Spanish CHR", which 2 or 3 larger signals in the market already do. If the money is there go for it. But hey thanks for trying to call me out on a point I wasn't making

All about the context. I know that’s not the point you’re trying to make, but it can come off that way.

The internet does make it difficult, but it’s just something to keep in mind. (I’ve been corrected on things that may convey a completely different message as opposed to something else.) 😀

WFAX's AM coverage is fairly marginal despite 5kw daytime. In the tradition of WSB, WFAX's tower sits in a small shopping center in Fall Church. I am sure the groundplane (if any) is well chopped up by building itself. (At one time you could walk by the windowe d studios of WFAX in the strip mall then the back entrance was closed off.)

The real prize is that 100.7 translator which covers most of Arlington, Alexandria and eastern Fairfax County. I hear WFAX 100.7 once I travel inside DC limits and directionally-nulled WZBA 100.7 Westminster fades out..

I wonder how long the 'new' AM will last. I used to eat at the tired but reliable cafeteria next to the station. It was kind of fun to peek in and see the station, but that programming is not for me.

La Pantera launched at midnight,, promoting Qatar World Cup as expected. The overnight so far is not just Regional Meixcan but a weird mix of different Latino formats. The old wfax.com website audio stream carries the new format.

The website is lapanteradc.com . Android and Apple apps available too. The audio is apparently a work in progress.
