WFBC off the air

WFBC 93.7 has been off the air since about 7:45....had a carrier until about 10 mins ago, now nothing. What's up? Wind damage I'm guessing from the tornadoes/bad weather....stay safe!

My friend in Asheville is very Scared... She is scared of storms, and she cant received B-93.7,,, I didnt want to tell her they were off air due to weather conditions, so i said it was probably her radio, and to tune into her local stations like WKSF and other stations in the area to see if they issue an EAS... I didnt want to tell her they were probably voice tracked.. her TV isnt getting CH 13 Asheville Either.... Could be the wind blew her Antenna the other way, but im worried for her.. Her phone went dead and she was dropped off the phone about 15 minutes ago.

I'm getting them (about 20 miles south of Greenville) but very scratchy and static is very noticable, never had this before. maybe it's the weather here. Funny how it went from silence with a carrier then to no signal. Maybe they're running a backup.

Is/was WYFF OTA up & running? If so, the problem is most likely on Garlington Rd.

Speaking of EAS, I have never heard it on WQNQ Star 104.3 here in Asheville. Are they not connected to the network? This is our hot AC/CHR at night station here.

i heard several eas alerts last night on 92.5 and 102.5 for the tornado warnings and nothing about the storms on any of the entercom stations. isn't 93.7 a primary station for eas. that is weak on their part.

Other than National Alerts, under EAS all other warnings are genrally optional for non-primary stations to pass along. If you comply with the state EAS plan, there are a few more required alerts. But there are a huge number of possible warnings/watches/alerts. If you chose to air them all, you'd be EAS all the time. At one time we considered dropping the CAE/Amber Alert notifications because in SC most of the initial alerts are completely devoid of any useful information. Namely, the first couple are "a 4 year old child has been taken in XX city" and that is about it. Second, SLED has issued at least one bogus Alert, such as for the teenager that snuck out to go to a party in Columbia. Had the proper investigation been done on the ground beforehand, they would not have interrupted programming 5 times.

In response to EAS: 98.9 was the only Entercom station running it I noticed. Broke in to Tesh twice in the 8:00 hour. 93.7 went to silence, then off the air, then came back on at a weaker power. Just looked and 93.7 and 92.5 are the main EAS stations in the upstate, and 90.1 of course.

I don't have OTA hooked up, so no clue on WYFF.

jmo but i would think a tornado warning would be pretty important to the listening public.

Which stations in WNC (Asheville) are primary EAS stations. This is crazy why all radio stations do not have alerts. I know that the main TV networks cut regular programming every 5 minutes or so. Fox Carolina had the best with coverage.

We have the unit set to do just National/State/Amber/Tornado Watch-Warning/Severe Thunderstorm Warning/Flash Flood Warning.

I checked 106.3/1330/950 (on FM) and didn't notice them doing any special coverage, or was I missing something? Pretty lousy if they weren't..

i agree carolinaradio. it is a joke that the news and information station did nothing with one fm signal and two am signals. there motto would lead you to believe that they break in with important information. i guess it was because the storms came through after regular business hours.

yep. Especially when the main EAS station in the cluster isn't even on (which could be understandable) and I don't think they interrupted ramsey or hannity once for weather updates. Sad when the AC station that isn't really responsible for any of these duties is the only one in the building with any weather updates.
when I hear severe weather is coming, I would pretty much immediately turn to the talk station and expect an update....instead, I got Sean hannity. Joke.

The primary for Western North Carolina is WMIT-FM (106.9) and the secondary is WKSF (99.9). We (WTMT/WOXL/WISE/WYSE/WOXL_HD2) automatically activate for all of the warnings from the primary for Asheville and surrounding areas the FM's reach. Friday was ticker-tape print-out madness.
