WFBC/WYFF-4 Celebrates 70 Years

WYFF-4, originally WFBC, celebrates 70 years of broadcasting with a Chronicle special tonight at 8:00. Interviews and highlights through the years with former personalities. Originaly owned by Roger C. Peace family, publisher of The Greenville News. Now separate from WFBC radio and the newspaper, became Your Friend Four, now owned by Hearst after previous owners Multimedia and Pulitzer. One of the legacy TV broadcasters in SC, along with WIS-10 in Columbia, and WBTV-3 in Charlotte, which also serves SC.

I’ve seen Dale Gilbert filling in a number of times over the holidays. Nice to see someone else from the past since so many have left WYFF in recent years with newer, unfamiliar faces. John Cessarich, Michael Cogdill, Geoff Hart (due to medical reasons), Myra Ruiz, Tim Waller, and many more have left or retired in recent years. I’m glad to see Carol Clarke (Goldsmith) and Jane Robelot, two very familiar faces still there. I did see Myra Ruiz is now with WHNS.

I recognize very few people on WHNS from even a few years ago. I’m glad Kendra Kent and Chris Scott are still there, but the old 10:00 News with Diana Watson and later Cody Alcorn was the best.

Yes always nice to see Dale Gilbert fill in. Definitely missed since he and Cessarich left. Nice to see Carol Clark and Jan Robelot still there.

Cody Alcorn was on WHNS a long time till he moved to Georgia about 2 years ago. Rather than transfer with Gray to the Atlanta sister staion CBS-46, now WANF, he joined 11-Alive WXIA, owned by Tegna.
