WFBO THE BLIZZARD LEAVING THE AIR?

With the recent passing of my father, and the fact that my wife has less than six months to live with aggressive and severe cancer, we left the Blizzard two weeks ago. The station did not transfer to us, and the owners decided to take it off the air once we resigned.

Its been a really bad four months filled with tragedy, and I just couldn't go on with a station in limbo. So I've returned to PA where I'm running four stations, and starting life over.

I feel bad that this happened, and wish everyone that was on our staff, nothing but the best.

I probably echo quite a few people... our prayers and thoughts are with you Chris. I am sure this is an extremely tough time emotionally and whatnot for you.

station always sounded great and seemed to have alot of underwriting on it.It's sad to lose a good community station like that, but i can certainly understand what Chris is going thru and our prayers are with you at this very difficult time.

Instead of take it off the air, why not sell it? If so, how much? I am a player and would buy it. The owners could make some money for their church in the very least from ad revs. I would consider cash plus a percentage of ad revs, unless of course the station is a non comm...

Uh, all LPFMs are non commercial in nature.

Plus, the station has other legal troubles too.

LPFM's can be sold just like any other non-comm on the open market. So, rather than cutting losses and closing shop, I'm sure anybody can be convinced to sell a soon-to-be-dark FM station.

And the station was levied some sort of fine from the FCC for cranking the power up at the transmitter, if I recall...

Radio-X

Yeah, the original licensee.... Ron something... had no clue of the rules concerning LPFMs, he treated WFBO as a commercial outlet.

Ron DID know the rules make no mistake about that. Choosing to following them was a different story. Yes, you are correct about how the station was 'treated'.

WFBO management did what they did to themselves. This does not include Chris Lash, it was going on long before Chris and Karen got there and cleaned up most of it which was running commercials and not sponsorship ads. The weather messed up equipment which would cost to fix as well. It just is not worth to go on with it. It is a smart move.
The second fine out of Tampa as you know was 24K; it was taken down to 8K.
A third was levied for somewhere in the neighborhood of 60K in the middle of this year mainly for commercials from the main D.C. office, but for some reason NOT levied yet. It could be because a FOURTH investigation has or is going on presently, again mostly regarding commercials and not power issues. Having it go dark is the best thing that can be done due to all these factors.
I wish Karen a supernatural healing. God Bless.

I even spoke to Ron, the original owner back when WFBO first got fined, about 5 or 6 years ago and asked him "Why did you run the thing at 450 watts?" and he said "Because it was there".

I agree, he very much knew the rules but chose to ignore them.

Chris Lash is a good, hard working broadcaster..and an upstanding person... I almost went to work for him once.

My continued prayers for him and his family.

Oh the stories I know and the stories I could tell, it's mind blowing.
Such a beautiful station with many great people put by the wayside. I believe the glory days could have be had legally, in fact, I know they could have been. This whole fiasco could have been avoided.
