WFDD on reduced power, WRTP effectively takes over 104.7.

Funny what happens when a transmitter goes on reduced power...

Going home in East Greensboro after a doc visit, I flipped to 88.5, which normally would be WFDD. Except it was not WFDD - would be His Radio instead. It was coming in quite strong... strong enough that the translator on 104.7 was also broadcasting it. 104.7 is a proper translator, no direct link, because in the past when WFDD has reduced power, 104.7 would go very hissy, and still hear the programming. Must be some strange skip going on, but I didn't hear it anywhere else on the band.

Thoughts?

I haven't had any trouble with WFDD.

I actually keep it on now after "Car Talk" now that paul Harvey is deceased and there's nothing to replace him on Saturdays. I'm actually enjoying the classical music, which surprises me.

I'm lucky because if I want classical music I can pick up WDAV. People in Greensboro cannot. And there's no music worth hearing that's even related. That's why I think if anything, WFDD should use 104.7 for their classical HD channel.

I too noticed that WFDD 88.5 was not there today. They share a tower with 94.1, and they were coming in fine. I imagine it has something to do with the storms last night.

You may get WDAV but most people in Greensboro can get WCPE from the Triangle, and I don't think they've got any plans to discontinue classical music.

They already did.

Why should anyone have to wait for weekends?

Can WCPE really be heard in spite of Joy 89.5?

Wait, I misread this the first time. I wasnt even looking at the left side when I decided to respond. You mean WCPE has no plans to discontinue classical music.

Exactly: WCPE AFAIK aren't going to discontinue classical music, and are looking to grow affiliate stations. So unless their donations dry up, I don't think they're going away anytime soon.

As for WFDD - they do have an HD-2 stream which is mostly classical. I know they discontinued a lot of classical programming during their main day schedule a long while back... probably maybe because WUNC was getting good listenership in the Greensboro area where WFDD and WUNC compete.

Mark.

But who would want to deal with HD? They're just like digital TV, which means the signal won't go very far.

I'm actually enjoying their Saturday classical music. I just don't turn the radio off after "Car Talk", and it's not as uptight as I would expect.

looks like the translater is on WNAA 90.1's tower...which is on the football field of NC A&T
Wow. Do the players have to be careful?

Any "America's Funniest Home Videos" moments on record?

Silly vchimpanzee, it's not ON the actual field... but WNAA's tx is right next to the stadium in its own fenced off area with a few dishes. I'm unaware of any drunk Aggies attempting to climb the tx tower yet...

:) I'm unaware of any drunk Aggies attempting to climb the tx tower yet??

I didn't know there were any "Sober" ones??BIG APE

WFDD's announcer this morning said they're still on 104.7.

She only gave the mountain weather forecast. Most of us aren't in the mountains.

Hard to believe Tom and Ray are on NPR! What I heard this morning was beyond bizarre.

If it ain't Baroque, don't fix it.
