WFFT dropped from DirecTV?

Well today's the big switchover day in Ft Wayne. At some point overnight DirecTV added WISE 33.2 to channel 34 but at the same time dropped WFFT 55, which of course is now independent. This is not a huge loss to me personally, as most of their programming with a exception of a couple of trashy talk shows and a bunch of court shows can all be seen elsewhere on DirecTV. My question is are any other cable providers dropping WFFT (I assume Dish isn't, since they're not carrying 33.2, at least not right away) and for those of you in Evansville, did channel 7 get dropped there or on any other cable systems.

A unique situation with the Evansville switch involves Time Warner serving Owensboro and fed to other cities. The head end traces its history to Owensboro Cablevision as WDRB Louisville was part of the original line up. WDRB continued on the system even as a Fox affiliate with approval of first WEVV and then WTVW. However, this time around WEVV told Time Warner to block WDRB's Fox programming. The problem is 44.2 isn't part of the basic analog line up as they are offered as part of their digital basic. That means if you want to watch Fox you need a converter box (offered free for a year), a TV with an ATSC tuner or live without Fox programming.

I wonder if DirecTV just plain dropped the ball here or is it really a play to get WFFT/Nexstar to pony up the bucks.
I'm set up to see them in HD from an antenna, but I know there's a TON of viewers that don't have the HD antenna; they consider their satellite AS their antenna. They don't differentiate between a Channel Master and Dish Network, or Winegard and DirecTV. They lump the 2 together and BAM! Total misinformation. This area has ALWAYS been behind when it comes to adopting technology.

You'd be amazed at the number of people in Chicagoland who are behind the times on certain technology (Comcast dominates the Chicago market). Most newer homes only have just a satellite if it doesn't have cable. If there are any homes with an outdoor antenna, it's primarily older homes with an older all channel antenna. If a newer home has an antenna, or an older home gets one after not having one for many years, I'm mainly seeing UHF only antennas, & Chicago has always been a VHF/UHF market (even during pre-transitional digital with WBBM-TV when they were on 3, but now on 12). Almost all UHF only antennas don't pickup VHF signals. I have seen a few homes with the newer VHF-HI/UHF antennas, but that is a small number right now. As for those of you in the Fort Wayne market, your market has now become a VHF/UHF market. I however don't expect most of you to even get a VHF antenna, as WINM Angola on channel 12 isn't important to most of you. I wouldn't even get a VHF antenna if I lived in Fort Wayne.

@ Dave: you're right. In my time as an installer I ONLY installed the Winegard PR-4400, now the HD-4400 (the only difference is the name.) And you CAN RECEIVE WINM on channel 12 on them. Nothing special required. It just shows up.

I've never had much luck with WINM from where my in-laws are, but they're both out on the southwest side and fairly terrain-blocked from Angola...

Yeah Scott I guess I should have mentioned you need to be north of Fort Wayne to get them on channel 12. Their repeater on 38 comes in pretty good around FW.

As of today, August 4th, DirecTV has a channel 54 up with "To Be Announced" in the menu bar.
Did they forget the channel number maybe?? (WFFT was analog channel 55, as we may or may not have known.)
As of 11 PM same day all that's running is the DirecTV logo and some music; standard practice.

We'll stay with this and have the latest for you.
Now back to the crap that REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY MATTERS...oh damn I forgot what that was anyway...
