WFFY UPGRADE Friday

For those who don't know, WFFY will be upgrading (to what, we don't know) at 5PM on Friday

My guess, they will put their signal on 98.1 and put mix there, form a hybrid station, playing dance, hip hop music and pop hits.
The return of the Great 98??

....word has it...
It's going to flip to coast 2 coast nights, hot talk all day and great rock on the weekends. It's gonna be called nine two one ROB FM. Bad news is they are downgrading to 1 kw at 73 feet so WPAP can move closer to Navarre's new tower (12,386 HAAT) and go to 200kw. I hear Hales tin can is going to flip to sports country.

Lol Sports country. I love it.

I don't understand the point of any change to WFFY. None of the other Apex signals other than Highway have more desirable coverage and somehow I doubt they're going to sacrifice country for rhythmic top 40. So why would they orchestrate a move between two virtually identical frequencies?

Sure, Mix 103 has a bigger coverage area, but c'mon… Are Crestview and DeFuniak Springs really desirable towns for selling? Or is this some quest to get that fringe PCB coverage for the spring breakers?

Well Crestview is one of the fastest growing towns in Okaloosa and I see 99 rock and z96 personalities up here all the time doing remotes. They will also get a big boost east of Destin.

Q92 HIT MUSIC.. NOW,, WTF?? This is a shocker!

I give this, 6 months tops, as more people will move to 103.1 vs Q92.

So fly is now Q92! ::) Pretty much the same station just a different brand. Although they are leaning more pop than hip hop.

Mix103. 1 is still stunting . Playing parts of songs then saying check out q92 over and over again. If you guys are right about foxie that would be awesome!

OMG this is SUCH an epic mistake on their part. This was my post on their Facebook page today:

"As someone with 23 yrs in the radio biz & as the very 1st afternoon guy hired to launch FLY 92-1 back in 2005, I can tell you that without a DOUBT, this name change/facelift from FLY to Q92 will prove to be an EPIQ fail. To the listeners of FLY 92-1, FLY wasn't just another pre-set button, it was a station they were PASSIONATE about! It was hip/cool/compelling/fun... FLY was THE PARTY STATION playing a distinctly more upbeat music mix than Zzzzzzzzz96!? So let's review, you clipped it's wings-it no longer FLY's, you shut down the Party, took away the listener passion & added more pop songs to the stations playlist so that now you can hear those Katy Perry, Rihanna & Gaga songs literally EVERY WHERE now on FM (92.1, 96.5, 103.1, 105.9, 107.9 + others). Welcome to your tiny slice of the cookie cutter top 40 format pie. And you killed FLY off on the week of it's 7th birthday. EPIQ FAIL. Switch it back now while you still can. IN FACT, I'll put my money where my mouth is even. Switch back to FLY 92-1 and I will personally pick up the tab for any expenses involved with changing the logos back. Quit92."

Replied, this almost has me in tears.

Foxy 103.1 sounds like a rock format, I can't imagine them competing with 99 rock though..

There are a couple of Foxie (note the spelling) stations in Georgia and they're urban; either urban contemporary or urban AC-ish.

I don't think either I know of, Columbus & Augusta, are owned by Apex, so who knows what they will do.
