WFLA - New Logo

It is also in bigger font than "Texaco Lube" studios...

Of course, they were due for a new logo ever since they dropped the Fox News affiliation.

Have they dropped it? I know they stopped playing the Fox newscasts during the day, but I hear them still at night and on weekends... Plus I hear Fox stuff inside the local casts too.

I would suspect the "970" is still "the face of the franchise" and by leaving it bigger than the 105.9, stresses that if you run out of 105.9, there is the larger 970 signal.

They ID the HD-2, but don't promote it any other place. So, I wasn't surprised to see it continue to stay missing from the new design.

What I DO find curious is, with as much as CC is promoting iheart over the air, the iheart logo is missing from the new design.

I'm a big fan of 970, but that new logo is pretty lame. I could have come up with something a little more flashy using Microsoft Paint. I hope they aren't plastering it on billboards...

Send your logos to them, you have already seen what THEY like.

Heck, couldn't hurt...

What do you all expect... I mean, just listen to the new news sounder... should have figured that anything else coming out of there would also be pretty lame...

970 is such a huge disappointment to me. They were the go to talk station for over 20 years... and now they've been relegated to playing all of CC's crappy syndicated programming. The news department is weak and over stretched, the local talent isn't much better than the syndicated garbage, and the whole station smacks of neoconservative propaganda. Their new logo should be the least of their concerns.

The reality is that their audience base got cut drastically when they decided many years back to be the #1 propaganda outfit for the modern republican party... let's remember this is at a time when every other AM talk station was also fighting to hold that title. Before that, this is the station Mark Beiro and Bob Lassiter used to call home. If you didn't like the show content, you could wait a couple hours and a different host with a different opinion would come on... it's not like that anymore. Every show host loves war, every show host agrees on who you should vote for... none of them sound like they have an original opinion in their head. Their talking points come from politicians and sponsors. The only person I know who still listens to the station regularly is my 80 year old neighbor, who loves Sean Hannity and Shnitt (although she's afraid to pronounce his name), and thinks that bombing the hell out of Arab people is something God smiles on.

I'm glad they got a translator up... merely because I'm a radio tech nerd. So it was sort of exciting to hear their signal on analog FM. But the content still nauseates me to my stomach. Lassiter was right on Radio For One... where are they going to find the next schmoe who can actually talk to you for 3 hours and say something meaningful... it doesn't exist anymore. The art of radio is dead, now they just want to tell you who to vote for and what to buy. Yeah... their logo sucks... and so does their station...

That's a pretty horrendous charge to levy. I don't know anybody who loves war. I know plenty of people who will support a war they think is necessary. You can disagree with whether or not a war is warranted, but I don't think any of the people on the air at WFLA have a thirst for blowing up people and buildings while risking the lives of U.S. servicemen and women.

Amen brother, WFLA and for that matter most talk stations in the country really suck. 970 back in 1990 sounded much better than they do today. I also personally feel that talk stations should use more local talent and balance out the politics. Like a radio host displaying both sides of the issue and letting you make decisions for yourself. Not screaming at you and telling you who to vote for. Racist, Antisemitic, Xenophobic, Homophobic and Sexist behavior is still alive and talk radio like 970 feeds on that. Did you know Limbaugh and Beck will actually talk over the guests that don't agree with them. That is why talk radio totally sucks.

Audio of Glenn Beck flipping out on caller.

Say what you want about WFLA broadcasting in the mold of many news/talkers along the Republican party line - but this out-of-town listener is impressed by their local news coverage, especially during the recent tropical storm. (Of course, Schnitt didn't make matters better by referring to it as "Tropical Storm Debby Wasserman Schultz"... :D )

No they don't, but the question becomes, are people who look different than Northern Europeans, speak different languages and have different perspectives on man's relationship with each other and with their dieties really people? Sadly, the jury is still out on that one.

I don't think it's a horrendous charge to say that the hosts on conservative talk stations love war... sure they say they don't love it, but actions speak louder than words. The last I checked our military is involved in warfare in at least 5 different countries right now... and I bet you can't find a single host on these CC talkers who opposes them. If you host a show where you spend several hours a day trying to rally people behind an unnecessary war, then yes I would say you have a thirst for blowing people up.

I understand why people who hear the station now think it's impressive... but what those people don't understand is just how much better it used to be. Gamefreak is right, WFLA was one of the greatest talk stations in the country in the late 80's and early 90's. Now it's just another station carrying Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin.

This is a topic on WFLA's new logo.

Their logo is fine, I don't understand why it's even an issue. It looks good to me. The real problem is their programming... if you want I can start a thread about that...

No, you were talking about their programming and this was a thread titled and about the logo.

If fact, you were talking about the hosts and making false charges about them.

Again, I can start a new thread about WFLA's programming if you'd like. I already said I thought their logo is fine. I even like it. In the meantime, everyone else seems to be captivated by 98.7's new format. I figured it might be a nice change of pace to talk about WFLA for a little bit, considering the thread is about WFLA.

As far as making "false charges" about CC hosts... I think that's up for debate... the fact is, all conservative talk hosts on CC stations support war unconditionally. They think the answer can always be found through military intervention. Not that I'm a fan of the fairness doctrine or anything like that... but something like 80% of the American population is growing weary with these unending wars... yet no one on mainstream radio expresses that sentiment...
