WFLF 540 On FM At 104.5

It sure won't be 100 kW. They must have struck a deal w/ Reach FM for that translator.

cc is already leasing 102.5 from the folks at WPOZ to run their I-heart radios smooth jazz format ala translation of WMGF-HD2. I hope they're not going to push that FM too much and forget about 540. 104.5 looks to have a decent signal in the north metro area once the power increase occurs. However once you go south of Sand Lake Rd your pretty much outta luck.

That's gonna be one heck of a legal ID they're gonna have to run, WFLF Pine Hills, WTKS-FM-HD-2 Cocoa Beach, W283AN Altamonte Springs.

Here in south FL, WIOD 610 doesn't use its 100.3 translator calls, but it does mention WBGG HD 2 or 3 at top of the hour.

Apparently, translator calls are not necessary. If they were, Reach FM would be spending 3 minutes an hour on that ID, with those three dozen or so translators! (See www.reachfm.org --- main signal WREH Cypress Quarters FL, near the city of Okeechobee.)

Smooth Jazz 102.5 is already in mono.
Wonder why?
Smooth Jazz sounds way better in stereo.
Moving Smooth Jazz to 104.5 might make more sense if they're keeping 102.5 mono.

Why? Because when you have really low power you can improve coverage by running in mono. Otherwise the signal gets noisy and unlistenable.

They are getting ratings on 102.5. Moving the smooth fjazz format would just confuse the issue. Obviously the current listeners don't care about it being in mono.

I do not remember the exact times but IIRC translators have to ID themselves @ 9am, 12noon, 3pm (or something like that). It is not very often, and a lot of operators do it very quickly and try to "bury" it in a stopset or with the regular ID. Your mileage may vary.

FCC regulation 74.1283(2) allows a translator to ID with Morse Code. The technical methodology is such that the ID is *probably* not audible on an ordinary radio. You could hear it on a communications receiver like an Icom IC-R7000.

(I have, strangely enough, heard the Morse ID of an FM translator on the *AM* station the translator was relaying. Haven't really figured that one out.)

I will go one worse, while driving to the Beach this summer I briefly hear a translator that was using an AM radio receiver for its feed. Complete with the lightning static.

Translators are required to ID between 7-9 am, 12:55-1:05 pm and 4-6 PM.

Hello. It may seem that 102.5 is in mono but if you listen very careful there is some stereo there but it's not separated very well. I have listened to it on headphones and you will notice it better.

If it was in Vero Beach, that would have been WAXE 1370 (legally WZTA) on the 107.9 translator. Yes it does sound pretty bad, especially when the AM receiver is slightly mistuned and they're playing music.

I think all of this will go down in a few weeks or so. Not sure on dates but reach fm is still on the air. Is the transmitter still gonna be in altamonte? I live near the best buy and the signal is a rimshot over here right now. the 107.3 out of debary actually comes in better over here.

The 104.5 is licensed to Altamonte Springs but transmits from a tower in Pine Hills just south of Clarcona-Ocoee Road on Pine Hills Road.

Hello Dean. Thank you for clearing things up. That makes sense now. I unfortunatly can't use radio locator maps because I cannot see them. I guess COLS don't mean a whole lot in terms of transmitter and tower location. BTW, anyone have a date on when this move is supposed to happen and where will the transmitter be? Anyone think CC would take a chance with WFLF on a full power fm like cox has done with WDBO? I honestly have no idea which signal CC would blow up for that to happen if this does indeed come to pass.

It seems that 102.5 is broadcasting in stereo again.
Weird. Maybe they were thinking of putting WFLA on 102.5 at one point.

Hello DJ Mo. 102.5 does indeed sound a lot better today than it has in a long time. Wonder if the cc engeneers read this? There stereo was not all that full until today. A little ot but the best sounding station was 103.1 when they ran smooth jazz. Their sound was just like a cd. Now the best stations with the best sound quality in my ippinion is first wpoz then wocl tied with wmmo. both 88.3 and 95.9 sound incredible.

I agree, WPOZ sounds fantastic! They are running the new Omnia 11.

Any news on this? It's been nearly a month and nothing has changed yet. I also heard that 107.3 will be broadcasting wrod from daytona.
