WFLF Jammer back up W233BH

WKGC in PC Beach is in HD. I don't think WFSW is. I've only caught WKGC-FM-HD a few times here in Pensacola. I think WKGC-AM is also in HD... the only HD AM in the panhandle? cceng should probably be the one to comment on WKGC's setup.

I didn't know WHIL in Mobile had HD... never got that one before. I'm surprised you can pick up 91.3 down there since it nulls the signal in the direction of 91.1, WPSM... almost in your backyard.

WUWF is in HD from that tower near the zoo/flea market on Hwy 98. WUWF should be the strongest HD signal where you are.

I think MPB in Biloxi has HD, but I never receive it here... not even in analog.

Those 1000 watt signals make HD DX nearly impossible. I can't remember hitting any distant HD signals except for WKGC. I've never picked up anything HD from NOLA, B-ham, or Tampa.

poledo...as usual... you are correct...WKGC AM and FM are in HD.....I guess Rob is batting 1000.....he is wrong again

cceng .... out

Yes - 91.3 is loud and clear. This radio really nulls out near by stations. Right now, I'm hearing WJSB with a simple wire antenna and it's coming in loud and clear with another station bleeding in (news talk) Mexico isn't coming in yet. Still too light out. I can hear Crestview being slowly faded as it grows darker.

Not that it matters but there's no LEGAL station ID's at the top of the hour, just dead air at the moment. It aired Dave Ramsey's satellite feed, I don't know if not doing legal top of the hour ID's is still an FCC requirement but, if it is, then W233BH is violating FCC rules.

Does the rule apply for TRANSLATORS or just full power stations?

There should have been the parent stations TOH legal ID! Oooops....
But for the translator itself, they usually ID via FSK (frequency shift keying) kinda like morse code that you cant hear but can be decoded by someone with the software or hardware box.

From what I understand - 1.400 KHZ is the main station and 94.5 is the translator. I don't understand why they ID as licensed to "NICEVILLE??"

The butthole who's running this station needs to get his ass together or shut off so I can enjoy WFLF.

Wow I didn't realize the N Fla board was so lively.

You can DX with HD, it's just a matter of adjusting expectations to match the power output.

For example, when I lived in central Mississippi "good HD DX" for me was getting a full decode on the Little Rock stations at 150 miles. That's nothing for big C class blowtorches but for the piddly HD signals it's pretty amazing. My record so far is the rock station licensed to Santa Fe, NM, from that same N MS location. No full decode but enough to get the call letters and few blips of digital garbage.

MPB's HD only reaches the eastern shore of Baldwin County. I've gotten a few decodes from Fairhope and Daphne but nothing much farther east. WUWF has great HD coverage and is possible to get as far our as Foley or Robertsdale but a glitch in their encoding means both of my radios have trouble with it. One won't lock at all and the other will lock but mute the HD-1 when the digital goes away; it won't fall back to analog. I talked to them about it via e-mail (nice folks there!) but I don't think they were ever able to figure out the issue.

Rob if you're getting the HD stations from Mobile-Pensacola you're doing better than me, I lose them in Gulf Breeze unless I'm facing west with the radio.

Here's the jammer's website: http://www.freedom945.com

Wow, what a great schedule! I'm sure WFTW is sweating bullets about their new FM competition! ;D
I'd be ticked off too if I had to listen to that crap instead of WFLF. That schedule is bad enough to inspire a fool to pull off a circa 1994 WVFS stunt (look it up Rob, it was one of the most notorious events in North Florida radio history... that would make a good new thread, "The most notorious events in North Florida radio history"). The FCC sure is doing a great job managing our airwaves.

These guys need to look to what's happening right now in Montgomery, Birmingham, and Atlanta. Launch an Alternative Rocker or just cop out and bring back cheap old K-Rock on this piddly 94.5 signal.
With the main gates of Eglin and Hurlburt within listening range, they could even keep the "Freedom" name for any type of music station. For FWB, I think Freedom is a cool name for a radio station.
And no matter where the format wheel lands in the fall, they would be stupid if they didn't wind up carrying local high school football on this little station.

Off topic, but here goes:
"WFTW"... isn't "FTW" old-timer slang for "[hump] the world"? And the local CW TV station is WFNA, with the on-air motto "WFnA, Florida AND Alabama, F'n A, Baby". We've got a bunch of potty mouth's in broadcasting around these parts.

When the complaints fly, i'm sure the FCC will step in. This station plays nothing but dead air half of the time.

For once you are right Rob....I was in FWB yesterday and was listening to "the Jammer" aka W233BH/WFMD "Freedom Radio" and noticed numerous silent periods when local spots were supposed to run during satellite shows.......audio quality was terrible....they are clipping and distorted....someone needs to go thru their air chain and set some levels !!!!!

I tried to listen to Alex Jones but guess who overpowered it..

I got an email saying "they are working on the problem" does this mean we will see a request for frequency change soon?
