WFLY in the News

thanks for posting this link. After reading the whole article it looks like either the stations including WFLY here in Albany & WQHT in NYC will either be going through format changes or new management alltogether plus the stations and their owners taking big time fines too if not jailtime either. Well now hopefully if no format change accurs, we can finally see Fly 92 go back to normal.

Re: How is Fly feeling?... How about KISS FM-Poughkeepsie???

I hear that if they go back they'll see some suspicious transactions involving Mike Morgan as well!! Hmmm.....how does one afford adopting two kids from Europe on an Albany Broadcasting salary? Also on the grapevine include trips, personal items, etc. and that it actually goes much deeper than Donnie Michaels at good ol' WFLY!!

Now you're ripping on Mike Morgan!? First the guy gets demoted from GM to sales, and now busting his ass for this? Right now, I'm sure he's laughing his ass off! I'm not defending him, but god..How about NOW at ABC?

Donnie is Afraid of Heights, But Not Laptops

Oh it's far more entertaining than this.

My favorite is Sony staff warning each other not to book Donnie in a hotel room on a high floor - he's afraid of heights!

Sony made sure his laptop made it to his new home in Miami, though.

Maybe his next gig should be in a country where he can't be extradited. Our stations here in Rochester are small timers compared to what Donnie managed, but the real reward goes to Dave "Universal" in Buffalo who extracted so much cash that they actually whined about it in their internal e-mails!

Also:

- read about the faked phone ins
- top dollar travel considerations for the DJ's, cheap limos for contest winners
- how to stage spontaneous audience appreciation and buzz in clubs
- the actual rate cards they sent DJ's to get paid for spins

It's outrageous and Spitzer promises mega-fines, and he's only dealt with Sony... several thousand more pages of goodies are forthcoming from the other major labels.

Stations should be losing licenses over this... forget about the cheap fines.

Because in case you're illiterate or don't care about the state of what the investigation into payola means they (Spitzer and Co.) are digging into how MUCH payola has been (past tense) going on. So..if they dig DEEP enough they will find that it has been going on in a big way for some time now!!!!

Re: How is Fly feeling?... How about KISS FM-Poughkeepsie???

Also , keep in mind that this investigation and the supoenas were going on as early as last summer/fall.
You mean you didn't notice how few trips were given away? No broadcast from Mardi Gras? Believe me, you name a program director at any Fly-ish station, and I will <i>guarantee[/i][/i]

MANY broadcasters are VERY scared of Spitzers investigation. And I mean outside of New York State! This is just the tip of the iceberg! Donnie Michaels and his ilk are small potatoes.

The big companies are against payola on the small scale, but they have no problem working with indie promoters on a nationwide scale.

It's been long known that pay-for-play exists. This is not news to anyone but the public.

Think about it, you hear the same songs played the same way all over the nation...do you really think that is because the songs are GOOD?
