WFLZ's mixshow

nd2023

How come more CHR stations can't support a dance mixshow on weekends?
I was in Tampa this weekend and I listened to 93.3 FLZ's mixshow on Saturday night, and it sounded like a Pulse 87 mixshow! Around downtown Tampa, stores and restaurants were blasting FLZ's dance show. I wish that mixshow got syndicated. And FLZ is owned by Clear Channel!
FLZ was also one of the first CHRs to break out Cry For You in regular rotation.

Maybe one of the first,, but to the best of my knowledge,, My station,, or AKA where I work broke Cry For you in October 07,,, and we had the longest run with it,,, still in current,,, but burning Current status.... Was our most played song of the year,, beating out Cascada at least for us.

Which mixshow was it you heard? We do the Saturday Night House Party (Brian Fink & Jaime) from 7p to 10p, then do a live club remote (music & jocks) from Shephards, Clearwater Beach from 10p to 1a, THEN back to the station for Re-Wired 1a-4a... LOL

We've always thrived on doing our mixshows... Its the best part of our station... Its fun to just be able to throw in whatever we want. ;D

Semi off-topic, but not really if its part of a mixshow.

There is one dance track imparticular that CHR radio should consider, but imparticular, the Florida CHR stations (and maybe it is in WFLZ's case...I dunno so James could answer this one.)

Armin Van Buuren feat Sharon Den Abel "In And Out Of Love"

If there is one dance track that spells "FLORIDA" all over it, this is it! The track definitely has that "Florida" feel to it. I know 93.3FLZ is CHR but this is a track that should be considered. Same with Power 96, XL 106.7, Big Ape.

Armin came to visit us a couple months ago; I was in studio with Fink interviewed him. We've spun "In And Out Of Love" several times on the House Party - its a GREAT track!

You can check out the House Party weekly playlist here:

It's funny, I grew up listening to the show... and I still insist, when Fink's ready to retire - I'll be ready to take it over. :p

Great! :)

I would think the mix shows down in Florida would have been all over it! It just "fits"....kinda throws me back to that sound that 95.3 Party had in 2000 or so, and to a not as lesser extent, Party 93.1 in Miami.

Thanks James!

I heard the Saturday night 7-10 mixshow, that was the one with 90% dance music. I first heard a pizza restaurant blasting the Freemasons' Uninvited, and complimented them on their choice of music, and they said that it was 93.3 'FLZ!
It's so great hearing dance music blasted in public like it's mainstream top 40. The mixshow's also at a great time when people are getting ready to go out to party, rather than at 2AM (Q102). Sounds way better than any KTU mixshow.

Fink definitley has an ear for dance music - I'd say he hears and plays a song - and three weeks later everyone else is playing it... lol

The show hasn't changed (besides mixers) in years - Fink has an exceptional sound on his show - which he'll never lose.

People often ask me why I prefer to hear my favorite songs on the radio instead of my iPod...and I think what you wrote above pretty much sums it up. There is just something special and satisfying to know that the music you like is potentially being heard by the masses.

You summed up my sentiments exactly Nick and Justthenumbers :) , which is why I do what I do to further push dance music into the mainstream. And if someone from the masses should happen to want to know more about dance music and come over to either the coalition, dance music posting boards or radio boards like this, based on hearing those sounds, then we welcome them with open arms!

Im considering this track as well,,, We got some room in the playlist for another Dance song or two, and although im not in Florida, I think this could work here,, maybe not for a full solid year like September,,, but I bet we do as good with it as David Guetta,,, 5 to 6 months and get into the top 10... I may add this next week.

Perfectly said. I remember saying this to people a few years back elsewhere.. I wish everybody could just get this without me having to explain it. I couldn't have said it any better myself.

Many times, when I talk about how much I wish there was dance on the radio, it's not all about me and what I want. It's mostly for the fact that it's nice to know it's readily available for others to hear and that other people are hearing the same thing I am hearing. Yes, I could load my I-pod all I want, but it's never the same as live radio. Without getting too deep into psychology and the psychological aspects of it, I'll just say, there is some kind of connection that t.v. and radio provides to people, regardless of how many walls, imaginary state and city lines, and other rules, regulations, religions...etc. separate people. Your subconscious knows that people are listening to and experiencing the sound with you. When this happens, you feel better, which can sometimes increase your motivation to do something that helps push the genre in a positive way.
