WFMS bought several TV spots during tonight's broadcast of the ACM awards on CBS. Mostly a promo for the morning show, but at the end, the producer screwed up the jingle. You only hear "5-5 WFMS"!
Not only does this reflect poorly on WFMS, but also on WISH. For some reason, I expect the top station in the market and the winner of a number of ACM awards to get their TV ad right during that awards show.

That was a standard one could clearly count on back in the Susquehenna days...obviously, it's a new day now. WISH? The same WISH that a couple years ago around 12:55PM Mon-Fri went to an empty chair for a news update almost daily for a couple of MONTHS for a news update? THAT WISH?
that'll cost WISH some makegoods....WOW! - but this was
a specifc buy for the show.
Have to agree with BobOnTheJob. Maybe an intern put it
together...but then again...then intern probably wouldn't
have screwed it up...on the otherhand...could be automation
for WISH too...channel 6 has ads and their own station
promo's that are always cut off at the beginning.
Having WISH screw up anything is no suprise. Just look at their news production and on-air people. The mornings are an embarrassment and their weekends look worse than any college production. Why would anybody be suprised that they screwed up a WFMS spot? Whoever told their on-air people that they are attractive enough to be on TV? lol
I enjoy WISH in the morning. Randy Ollis is personable AND professional AND real. Some of the anchors on other stations seem to "play like a television anchor" and it shows. Randy was better with his medical condition than most others with no problems.
Some of the weather people do the same exact forecast but you can tell they are going through the motions. Randy isn't complacent or somewhere else when he does the weather. Same for the regulars at 8.
They don't mispronounce local city names. Thye know about the area. This is credibility. Most of the regulars have been around probably since before some of the newer folks were born.
Not only have I heard about the empty seat but I have heard the dead air when WFMS would go live to 8.
I also see every WISH person out in the community regularly doing things with civic groups. Don't see this with other stations.
I usually watch the first 10 minutes of 13's news at night. (And this is still too long because that's how long it takes to get to the weather. Not the weather tease but the real forecast.) Because of this I have been using 8 news more and more.
Weekends? I HAVE to watch 8 because 13 is working on news from the week before and national clips. (kind of like the Indy channel during the week.) No breaking news or mobile units on the weekend. No staff. Just whoever had to work the weekend. Weekday staff isn't there. Not the same with 8.
Even if you don't care for Ruthann Gordon she is still at 8 and does a much better job than the newbies out of another market still playing tv anchor. Stability because of the environment there shows. Don't keep her because she has been there but because she can still do the job.
Sports. I really don't like sports with news. I tolerate it. I really liked Mark Patrick on air but I guess there were issues. Yes his ego is larger than life but Mark is really a great guy. And I would watch teh sports just to see the uncomfortable interaction because something was always in left field. Henry Wofford? Calm down Henry Calabro will let you do sports this week. JMV is better but still has delivery issues. 6 has all the smiling faces. Please tell someone nobody cares about a half hour of sports after the news. This is a way to get people to turn the channel.
8 has the news, forecast, and radar available by Blackberry or wireless too. Last 4 years there is always a web news presence available by phone unless Steve Bray is on vacation (like last week) and somebody doesn't update it. 13 has had issues with their web presence and the radar hardly works.
I think there are ups and downs in any business. TV has the same problems as radio. More automation. (The Indy Channel) And video automation isn't where radio automation is. Indy Channel at holidays is great because they forget to change the newscast and you get several days of the same newscast over and over.
I only very rarely see any technical problems these days on any of the TV stations in Indy. I never watch WRTV (I still haven't seen Todd and Trisha doing the news). I usually watch WISH, but that isn't an indicator of how good the newscast actually is.
I like WISH's format at 6 and 11. 18 minutes of news with one commercial break in the middle, get Angela's forecast in one breath, and turn the TV off.
I'm also a fan of News 25 in Evansville ... for whatever reason.
My biggest gripe with 8 is that the Saturday morning news is the same footage as the Friday night news--at least they could have a couple different takes...nope. My first choice is the 10PM news on Fox 59. Brian Wilkes is great...plus, he's done something I can't believe isn't universal in this market...the low forecast temperature is **between** the highs for the previous & next days, rather than above or below a high temperature leaving you to wonder if that low is prior to sunrise or after sunset on a given day. As for Noon & 6PM, I'm with Chief...WISH gets me with the understanding that I'll choose a different channel for the next news I watch within 12-18 hours.
Have you noticed how short the stories are now? About one to two sentences and maybe twenty seconds on a story. Is everyone's attention span getting that low.
Todd and Trisha. How old is she? 12? Their news delivery isn't bad and despite the rv trip to allsuburban towns for 10 minutes this is all the contact they've had. The indy Channel was such a good concept but has failed in content. It truly is a few seconds on many news subjects then out...
13 has always been live local and late breaking and they have a strong news ownership.
I am glad to see 8 where it is in the ratings because this means more bottom line to compete. The problem with 59 is i usually just get into watch tv programs at 10. I enjoy some programming until the news at 11. CSI or Law and Order. Wonder if the surge in death drama at CBS is helping as a lead-in to the news.
Wonder if cable penetration will help or hurt ratings in the spring, or have no effect?
I'm not sure why you follow me around but apparently you have nothing better to do, but I do.
I have nothing against 6. Was glad to see joni michaels back on tv.
Trisha at my age looks 12. 6 is noted for not promoting their product. the drive by when T & T came to town was good but a short blast. The repeating of not much news on the indy channel is something far short of what it could be.
