WFNI 1070 The Fan Changes Translators

The station is now calling itself 107.5/1070 The Fan. 107.5 had been its original translator. But more recently, WFNI had been using 93.5 as its translator station. WFNI has local hosts from 10am to 9pm, as well as some live sports at night, including the Indiana Pacers, where it is the flagship station. Late nights, mornings and weekends, it carries ESPN programming.

While 93.5 was the WFNI translator station, 107.5 had been used as a full time ESPN station.

So why confuse the listeners and switch WFNI back to 107.5? And what is now airing on 93.5?

They had to. Emmis wanted The Fan on the stronger translator, and 93.5 had to reduce power and directionalize because it was getting interference complaints from the Muncie area station on the same frequency.

Not sure what's on 93.5 now or if it's even currently on-air. My understanding was that Emmis and Woof Boom Radio were working on a settlement regarding the power reduction and directionalization of 93.5, but it may not be finished.

93.5 should be on the air, at 2 watts ERP from the WYXB tower, primarily covering the eastern sections of Marion County.

I assume they swapped it to carry the all-ESPN feed of WIBC-HD2, but I'm not close enough to receive 93.5.

I would guess Emmis will try to find a different tower for this translator to give it more power.
