Tonight, I'll try measuring CHOK before and after Sunset with the FIM-41.
The Indianapolis area has a couple of FM stations acting as a single unit called "Catholic Radio Indy", with mostly cherry picked EWTN and Relevant Radio shows (mostly EWTN though) and a few local offerings.Except the Catholic groups. They're still paying a pretty penny for AMs, and I don't think there's a Catholic station in Indy (i'm happy to be corrected on that). It's of course innacurate to say "WFNI" came on the air in 1938, the facility was WIBC until WIBC flipped to 93.1 FM.
Most likely your "K" station is KHMO Hanibal. They run a news-talk format. That said, the other...but less likely.... possibility IS Wichita, KFTI. Classic country,I've been trying for KNX at the 12-1 AM timeframe... I've gotten a lot of CHOK and WCSZ, an occasional WTSO, and one barely audible station that was K something something I, so possibly the Wichita station. Most of the time it's CHOK or WCSZ with a decent signal. Haven't heard Hannibal yet. I don't think KNX is coming in at all, since they have a distinctive news broadcast that I think I'd recognize pretty quickly. Oh well.
If Catholic radio is already there, they won't be buying an AM.The Indianapolis area has a couple of FM stations acting as a single unit called "Catholic Radio Indy", with mostly cherry picked EWTN and Relevant Radio shows (mostly EWTN though) and a few local offerings.
I was pretty sure I heard an I at the end but I can't be totally certain. Today however KHMO was definitely there, alongside WCSZ. This time CHOK was nowhere to be found. And of course, no KNX either. I guess if I really want to try for KNX I'll have to stay up til 4-5 AM (because of course it's not possible for a mere mortal to wake up that early.)Most likely your "K" station is KHMO Hanibal. I've mentioned this before, but I've had the best luck between 6:30 and 7:00AM in late October. Hope you get it before then.I was pretty sure I heard an I at the end but I can't be totally certain. It's been at least 10 years since I've heard KNX in the Chicago area and I think you said it's been at least that long for you Cyberdad. When I used to be able to hear it(KNX), WTSO and "Indy" were not the problem as I could null them. However, now it seems that there are more stations that don't power down when they should.Another day, another issue. This morning before sunrise it was WCSZ with WTSO mixing and/or underneath.
Yeah...Sounds about right,It's been at least 10 years since I've heard KNX in the Chicago area and I think you said it's been at least that long for you Cyberdad.
Another sign of what AM radio has become.I drove by the 1070 transmitter site this morning on the way to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. How strange to see next to nothing – no towers, no tuning huts – just the main building, the WIBC billboard and acres of freshly mown grass. And silence on 1070.
Hopefully he'll find it. In the meantime there will probably be many more demolitions.Art Vuolo just heard it was demolished, and wanted to find out if there was a video of the demolition.
