Seems the only person over there at Emmis who doesn't understand that trying to create a radio star out of the average dolt on the street never works is John Quick-the guy who continues to run (oh did I say run, I meant RUIN) what could be a very good station. He did the same thing in Minneapolis, and it had the same marginal results.
Let's run down the list: Jersey Johnny, Eddie White, Bob Kravitz, Jeff Smulyan's wife (Sorry. I couldn't bring myself to listen to that train wreck of a "dating" show she did with Ed Wenck just to find out what her name was), the list goes on. If I'm Kravitz or White, I never take a day off...ever, I wouldn't want anyone to hear a real radio guy (like Mark Boyle) fill in and make everyone realize just how bad I am. I haven't heard much of Dan Dakich's work on the radio, so I can't comment on that, but having listened to Mark Boyle for many years both in his play by play role and as a sports talk show host on WNDE, I would honestly say he's one of the most entertaining show hosts in the market. Since he rarely is on the air anymore outside of the Pacers broadcasts, I'd say he's probably doing pretty well without having to do a daily radio show just for the money, which is too bad for WIBC, WFNI, and their listeners. But hey, they still have the hardware store guy who can fill in on morning drive when neccessary-and sadly he's probably their best on air personality.
