WFNX PD

Mittman years were the highest rated of the post Pearl Jam Nirvana era on FNX , not a disaster on the advertising end but sure pissed off a lot of FNX regulars.

Do you have any specific numbers? I was following the station back then and didn't detect any significant bump or slide compared to their pre PPM numbers. I remember in the late 80's when WFNX had close to a 3 share 12+ under Kurt St. John - and that was when WBCN was in its prime.

At some point in the 90's Alternative and Active Rock were indistinguishable - right when iPods came along. I think that's what killed alternative, indie rock fans were abandoned by the format, and they haven't returned. And I don't think playing Nirvana every hour will lure them back.

Kurt St John....that's awesome......

to clarify.......FNX had a nice dinner in the low to mid 2's in the mid 90's, not the late 80s, for six or seven consecutive books. Kurt St John is actually Kurt St Thomas. He was PD during that run.

great points, everyone, about fnx and the present and future of the format. it will never be the same because radio has never had a post-alternative era. no one really knows what to expect or what to do. there's no template to follow, and the mass confusion/debate over what is an accurate rating system vs what is an accurate method of reaching the listener vs how to properly program vs how to properly market the format.....man, what a headache. Glad I'm not involved anymore. It's good to just sit back and listen to music now.

As a former fnxer, I wish Paul all the best and encourage him to enjoy the ride while it lasts. being PD of that station is a unique and wonderful experience, but it never lasts long. so Paul, get all the free Kelly's fried shrimp while you can!
