WFNX Top 100 of 2007

So I haven't listened to WFNX in a while. I pick up this week's Boston Pheonix, and inside is a list of WFNX's top 100 songs of 2007. What a great list.

My question is when do they ever play any of these songs?

I decided to finally give WFNX a try again today. Mostly what I heard was "recurrents", or songs from the 90's by Top 40 rock bands. Not much new stuff.

if you listen for an hour, you'll hear a ton of new music mixed in. pretty much from 6-10, then 12-6am, 1 out of every 3 songs is a current. the top songs are being spun 30 times a week.

Took an hour from their playlist today, according to yes.com:

Yes, the Duran Duran is current as they have a new album out. I'm glad they are playing it too, because it's a good album and Duran Duran are definitely a classic alt artist.

I listened extensively on Saturday. As I said, mostly 90's rock with a few current songs thrown in. None of the great tracks listed on the WFNX Top 100.

And as for 6-10 AM, that's the worst. I disagree totally. Again, it's mostly 90's rock.

Ciao when I worked there (recently) we played more "gold" songs than we did during the week. The new music is more prominently featured m-f especially on Alter Ego. But I did look at that list and there are some songs I don't ever remember us playing:

Regina Spektor, Better
Killers, For Reasons Unknown
Queens of the Stone Age, 3s and 7s
Interpol, No I In Threesome
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Underwater (You and Me)

We played other songs from these albums but not these songs very often if ever.

i meant 6-10 p.m., alter ego. that's when most currents are played.

and i heard all those songs on fnx over the year.

sometimes theyre featured as a song of the week, other times they're exclusive to alter ego, overnights, and on demand (saturdays 8-mid). plus, the vast majority don't stay in the rotation. if a song was huge in january and got a top 40 spot on the list, you can't expect to hear it any more now. not that i agree with that cycle, but thats how it works.

if you want a current list of currents, go here, and search for their 7-day report (the YTD link is useless now since its a new year, but watch it over the course of 2008): http://www.allaccess.com/

from the list, this is probably what you can still hear:
1. Muse - Starlight
2. The White Stripes - Icky Thump
3. Modest Mouse - Dashboard
4. Amy Winehouse - Rehab
5. Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
6. Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks
7. Dropkick Murphys - I'm Shipping Up to Boston
8. Foo Fighters - The Pretender
9. Paramore - Misery Business
10. Spoon - The Underdog
11. The Killers - Read My Mind
12. The Smashing Pumpkins - Tarantula
13. The Shins - Phantom Limb
15. Feist - 1234
16. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Face Down
19. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow (Hey Oh)
20. Dropkick Murphys - State of Massachusetts
21. The Bravery - Believe
22. Cold War Kids - Hang Me Up to Dry
26. Jimmy Eat World - Big Casino
27. Radiohead - Bodysnatchers
29. Muse - Supermassive Black Hole
30. Against Me! - Thrash Unreal
32. Silversun Pickups - Well Thought Out Twinkles
33. Modest Mouse - Missed the Boat
34. The Bravery - Time Won't Let Me Go
36. The Killers - Shadowplay
37. The White Stripes - You Don't Know What Love Is
38. AFI - Love Like Winter
43. Eddie Vedder - Hard Sun
45. Band of Horses - Is There a Ghost
54. Foo Fighters - Long Road to Ruin
60. Radiohead - Jigsaw Falling into Place
97. Shiny Toy Guns - Rainy Monday
99. VHS or Beta - Can't Believe a Single Word

ex radio, the CYHSY song was played a ton. driscoll remixed the radio edit. the others are just album cuts that got random play.

I remember this station down in charleston south carolina called 96wave...I listened to it and said to myself "wow...if fnx sounded like this...it may pull better ratings"....but then again there were only 2 rock stations down there and 96wave ended up flipping anyways, so I guess it couldn't have been as good as I thought...I like fnx...they play music that you just don't hear on bcn or aaf, and it's not too obscure to get me to change the station...ps if anyone is looking for a great weekend get a way, head down to Charleston, killer scene, good looking ladies, and just a great little southern city...kind of like Savannah Georgia, but not as dirty and more to do

Boondock, why regulate current songs to Alter Ego? What makes your station think people only want to listen to oldies during the day? I'm not saying the station should be nothing but new music. But what I'm hearing during the day on WFNX are:
1- tired, overplayed songs from major label band from the 90's (Pearl Jam, RHCP)
2- the same songs I can hear on Mix 98.5 (Salisbury Hill, New Order, lame!). If WFNX is going to play oldies, get some balls, play something that isn't so lame, boring, bland and predictable.

oh i completely agree with you. i have nothing to do with the station, but i've been an avid listener for years. i was just explaining that those songs are indeed played. it seems a lot of people who criticize the station in other instances aren't regular listeners, and lack an informed opinion.

again, you're totally right, and i think it sucks how they limit the playlist during the day, and further kill the song count with the morning show.
