WFNX Top 500 Countdown of All Time Question and Comments

Does anyone know how they came up with this list? It is supposedly based on all of the songs that 'FNX has ever played. A few minutes ago they played "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" by the Clash. Strange, that song actually predates WFNX's launch of 1983. Are they including their WLYN years also or is the list arbitrary instead?

Also, when they are playing the songs on the radio, they are using videos from Youtube (when available) as well.

Just curious.

Regards,

Retro

Looking at the top 500 list you posted from 1999, and compared to what I've heard so far this weekend, the lists are very similar to each other with of course some songs from 1999-present thrown in to the current list. As far as the Clash song being played, I also heard David Bowie's "Modern Love" and "Rebel Rebel" on the countdown, which obviously were released before 1983. I believe the top 500 countdown is in regard to the "Best ever" and not the best since just 1983 when FNX was first on the air. Also a funny liner they are promising about the list is that "Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit will NOT be #1". Would be interesting to see what does make it to #1.

P.S. Big Jim afternoon drive dj said it would be posted on the WFNX website on Tuesday morning.

As of 1:51 pm 9/1, countdown is winding down at #34: Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus.

Drumroll please...

#1 RADIOHEAD ... ... Creep. :-\

Ahead of Under The Bridge, I Wanna Be Sedated, Teen Spirit, Mr. Brightside?

Ok. ::)

But might I add...

KUDOS to WFNX and its staff for putting out the effort and giving the radio listener something to ACTUALLY LISTEN TO over the long holiday weekend, instead of the usual 20-30 songs on Repeat Repeat Repeat.

Well done, looking forward to checking out the full list on Tuesday. 8)

I agree, Creep belongs at #12 or so. But again, great list, great radio. Was happy to see The Smiths in the top 20.

BTW, 'FNX has been claiming that they are the only locally owned radio station in the market. How true is that claim? I thought that WJIB was locally owned also?

Did FNX countdown the top 500 alternatve songs of all time? I heard Groove is in the Heart by Dee Lite which belongs more on a MIX countdown rather than an FNX countdown. Good song but this weekend was the first time I have ever heard it played on FNX even when the song was big in the early 90's.

Groove is in the Heart was actually played on a lot of Alternative/Modern Rock stations in the early 90's... so they probably felt justified in playing it.
