WFNY or WXRK?

I dont know if this has been answered yet, but will K-Rock be getting back its WXRK calls as well? or will it be staying as WFNY?

I know Joe Public doesnt care, but some of us do ;)

That station is also called K-Rock. CBS moved the calls there when Free-FM was born. They could move it back or do something intelligent and put on a callsign that makes sense. CBS Radio already has permission to use WKRK-FM.....

The WKRK calls are currently on their FM Talk station in Detroit - ironically, also called (for now) Free-FM...

They've already announced that the WXRK calls are moving back to New York. K-Rock in Cleveland will get the call letters WKRI. The changes are expected to take roughly a week to complete.

CBS here in San Francisco is moving call letters around. When 99.7 KFRC flipped to MOViN' 99.7 they kept the call letters as KFRC. Now with the whacking of FREE FM they are moving the calls to 106.9.

They are imaging the station as Classic Hits 106.9 KFRC. The top of the hour offical call letters for now are KIFR.

MOViN' 99.7 will get the call letters KMVQ.

Why couldn't they just move the KFRC calls to 106.9 when they were Free-FM, rather than break ut a new set? Or would that make too much sense?

According to the CBS Radio station listings..

...the WXRK calls will be transferred to our new K-Rock here in NYC. Meanwhile, 92.3 in Cleveland (which currently has WXRK) will get new calls of WKRI.

(Both stations are under "Active/Alternative Rock) - http://www.cbsradio.com/stations/index.html?sort=stat_format

WXRK-FM New York, NY 92.3 www.923krock.com
WKRI-FM Cleveland, OH 92.3 www.krockcleveland.com

...also interesting to note.. on the same page.. scroll down and you'll they've dropped the "FREE FM" name on the listings and replaced it with "FM Talk" and some of the stations that are currently Free FM have dropped it from the URLs.

Ditto. I heard WXRK today too.

They've got some sweepers running that say WXRK, but the top of hour ID still says WFNY. (Notice that the sweepers that say WXRK do NOT run at the top of the hour.) While they're waiting for the call letters to be transferred, they're taking steps to get New York used to the WXRK calls again.

Also if you go to yes.com, you still have to type in WFNY to see K-Rock in NYC. WXRK still takes you back to K-Rock in Cleveland.

I don't know how the FCC network works as far as calls are concered. In another post, somebody says that it may take several days for new calls to take place. But if a major corporation had planned a filp, then they would have filed the request for the change of calls earlier, right?

99.7 was Classic Hits KFRC was already on the air and very established. When CBS got the 106.9 frequency they assigned the calls KIFR to relate to
(KI)FRee FM.
