While I'm enjoying the hell out of FOG's "20 years in 20 days" countdown (to a format call letter change probably), it doesn't seem to be based on Billboard, Whitburn, or anybody, except the #1 song for each year has been accurate so far. If this "BOB like" oldies playlist is going to be their new format, I agree with it. Its nothing but TOP 40 all over again, and its about time.

Unfortunately their processing is over tweaked to where the bass is distorted at high volume and some of the songs just drive the processing crazy and end up at high volume sounding tinny and bubbleing.

Anybody been tracking the FCC sites to see if Lamb acquired the "WWWD" calls he was looking for?<P ID="signature">______________

I agree with the processing observation and I am pretty sure the processing sounds the same as it has for a while. It seems as if somebody ventured to come up with their own unique sound for the station that does not have a ear for good audio.

P.S. on this subject, has anyone heard the processing on 98.9 WLUC in Richmond? It is some of the best I have heard in years, very clean and pleasing to the ear.

It's getting into the time period when I grew up in. I remember listening to afternooner Mike Allen on Z104 back in the early 80s...

Kd, I have listened to the WCUL processing, when it's on. Note the last part of that statement. It's only on during certain times, which does suggest a sell soon of the whole mainquad group. It's a theory that myself, VARTV and RadioX are all thinking will happen. It will be interesting to see if it shows back up on the air sometime this weekend. It was on the air the last time I can remember last sunday night about 11pm. It was off by 6am Monday. If it does, I will expect more of the looping that has happened in the last few attemps. 70's though today.

Then Mike joined me at WZCL COOL 105.3 in the late 80's when I was "The Real Steve Kelly" there.

One thing WFOG did Thursday nite that REALLY ticked me off....They blew off the #1 song of 1978 around 11pm while I was taping them. It went from #2 to starting all over again with #100. I dunno if DJ John Shomby even knows he did that! I'm guessing, since they didn't play it, the #1 song was probably "Night Fever". <P ID="signature">______________

As tired as they sound, MIX 103-7 is good...
WCVE-FM has probably the best audio processing I've heard out of an NPR outlet.

We in Richmond have it lucky...we could live in Roanoke where they speed the songs up and have waaay too much reverb...
 
kd6, as of about 2pm, WCUL is on the air again, but my money is still saying that it will be off the air by monday morning. I think it will be sold along with mainquad's other stations. As far as the processing, it's great to listen to and I am happy it's on for consecutive weekends, instead of a three week gap LOL.

I am in Hampton Roads, I wish the stations here would take some cues from the Richmond stations on processing, most of the stations have major audio issues here. I have a little experience in FM engineering and it drives me nutz to hear bad processing in the erra of Omnia 6's and Optimod 8400s. Even a 8200 can sound clean and loud, but most engineers don't seem to have the ear for it these days.

104.9 the Bull, K-92, Star Country...they up the tempo on the songs and add bad amounts of reverb...esp. at the Bull.

You'll hear these jocks on the air, and I swear, it sounds like they're in an auditorium.

Then again, I do not do anything in engineering, so what do I know? I just prefer a station with clean, fat low end and a high end that doesn't sound tinny as all get out.

I will say, the WORST station processing is the Bobcat 93.5...it sounds soooo flat.
